Wild - Jackets

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 12, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think based on the Zucker trade the Wild are looking towards the future without giving up on the current season.
I know Galchenyuk isn't the player Zucker is but I suspect Guerin will try to get vetran replacement along with prospects and or picks for the future.
He knows the Wild are not cup contenders this year, but Leipold has not yet excepted this.
Guerin has said he was primarily targeting a number 1 center or a 2C plus prospects or picks. I don't see anyone moving their top centers. He has also mentioned he would be interested in acquiring a starting goalie, I suspect Dubnyk is going to be bought out this summer.
So I think this is a trade that could benefit both teams.
I would also like to say if Wild slip much before the trade deadline this could become a fire sale.
Trades
MIN
  1. Bemström, Emil
  2. Korpisalo, Joonas
  3. Savard, David
  4. 2021 1st round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
So the way I see this trade is Dumba for Korpisalo, Savard, and a 1st
Donato for Bemström.
I don't think this is possible if Columbus isn't a buyer at the trade deadline.
I may be off a bit on value but I think this is kinda what Guerin has in mind.
CBJ
  1. Donato, Ryan
  2. Dumba, Matt
Additional Details:
Seth Jones is out for a while but Dumba can help ease his absence.
Korpisalo I think could be available since Elvis has been fantastic also Jackets 3 best goalies are RFAs this summer and though none of them should break the bank 3 of them could get a little spendy.
Savard is the piece that makes this move palatable for Liepold as he isn't having a great year but he is a veteran.
Wild need more right shots so Bemström for Danato would be a nice swap. Donato is young but further along in his development.

CBJ are in a position like the Jets...Are not good enough to win it all so they wont mortgage the future on a bad trade just to be decent for this year

The only real future piece they are losing is 21 1st. Savard is like 7 years older than Dumba, they can't play 3 goalies at once and Bemström is 3 years younger than Donato who is 23. I think its a balanced move other than the 1st they give up to be competitive now.

They only have two goalies...

As for the trade, its fair and everything but I would doubt they would do it as its not like they lose Jones for a long time, it only affects them this year

Jackets decline. No need to trade bemstrom or savy plus a first and our all star goalie for another defenseman. We don’t need d. We need a true top 6 center. Kinda like the wild. I understand jones is out. The solution is not to trade our top shutdown guy for another offensively minded d man.

I don’t know how to assess this because I don’t have a clue what goalies are worth in a trade. I like the premise of this deal though.

That’s an easy no from Columbus. Dumba would be a great add, but not if it’s costs Savard, Korpisalo and Bremstrom.... that’s too much for Columbus to give up for a top 4 RHD, essentially is a 1b goalie, and a young middle 6 wing for a replacement top 4 RHD....

It's tough to say with Korpisalo also because he hasn't been a number 1 very long but he was having a all star season before the injury. I'm guessing his value is around a late 1st early 2nd if I were to equate him to draft picks, I could be very wrong.

This is just brutal for CBJ. Korpi’s value is at an all time high. Savard could probably fetch a 1st by himself. And Bemstrom is better than Donato

Bemström is not currently better then Donato. He probably has a higher ceiling but he isn't there yet.
Goalies don't value as high in trades as it is I am assuming his value is a late 1st early 2nd.
I respect Savard but stay at home defenseman don't usually value as high so I doubt Jackets get a 1st for him.
It probably isn't a even trade to the Blue Jackets but if the Jackets are looking to make some moves for the playoffs I think this is a option worth considering.

Only goalie I'd trade for is Georgiev. Would much rather sign a UFA if they don't trade for him, since most goalies are a gamble.

Korpisalo is actually the better goalie statistically. However you could argue the "he's on a better team" angle.
