I guess the deadline doesn't make sense at all to the Islanders then? That's a massive overpayment for Pageau.

Blows my mind that people are considering sending a 1st round pick for Pageau, a career third liner who's having a good year in his contract year.

NHL teams get stupid around the deadline. Remember when Minnesota gave up a 1st, 2nd, and a 4th (that could've turned into a 2nd) for Martin Hanzal

Now that Cizikas is out and Brassard is producing again, 4C may be all we need out of him

I don’t trust brassard to keep this up - we need a 3C. Brassard is more effective on the wing

100%, it's somewhat of a meme but he gets called an elite 1C among Ducks fans

He does so much right, great on faceoffs, PK, in his own zone, at only a 700k cap hit too, would be a great add for NYI at a reasonable cost

13Gs on the year so far great guy in the room from what I hear and read

I think he would be great under Trotz

EDIT: had to add he's a driven guy, gives it everything he has every time he's on the ice, model bottom 6 guy

So basically he can be the Isles savior

A guy that can play up and down your lineup, wins faceoffs, PK specialist, proven playoff guy, great work ethic. He does everything right. He's that perfect depth addition for a deep run and let's not forget the centre position at the deadline this year is pretty bare. Stop looking at it as only acquiring a "3C".

Even before the CC injury I thought he was perfect for the islanders but even more so now

Max he goes for in my eyes is a 3rd if there are multiple teams calling but realistically he goes for a 4th probably

He has been on my radar for like a week now and I liked what I saw but after reading everything you've wrote about him I love the idea of getting him even more. The Isles could get him at the fair deal too if it would end up being a 4th/3rd like you are suggesting. I'd love for that deal to happen. However, the only thing I could see happening to not make this a deal is Lou calling up Cole Bardreau instead since he did pretty well in the beginning of the season.

Also, just a question but if you had to take a stab at it, how much do you think his next deal would be around?

None of that changes my mind that he shouldn't be considered worth a 1st round pick. The Sens have been in the playoffs once. When a 1st round pick is in play, you want an impact player slotting into your top-6 or top-4 directly. Not a "depth addition" who can play in that spot if there's an injury. He's a good player. Got it. But he's not worth a 1st in my mind.

A GM might overpay because it's the TDL and there are always dumb mistakes that are made. And like you said, there aren't many centers on the market. But I wouldn't expect it. This has "buyer beware" written all over it, but good for JGP for having his career year when his contract is coming up. Some team will overpay him this coming season.

If I had to guess I’d say 3 years 4.5M ball park AAV 1.5

Looked at Austin Watson, Chris Wagner and Brassard for comparables

Not bad not bad. I think he would end up just being a rental if the Isles got him but I wouldn't mind that price if he was extended

He may not be worth a 1st round pick in a lot of people's mind but I'm just trying to look at it given the current market. Hopefully, a team overpays smile
