Kreider signing rumor

Created by: mvp13
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 12, 2020
Published: Feb. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Based on a rumor I saw that the Rangers are offering Kreider a 6.75mil contract at 5-6 years. Strome, Georgie, and Fast are the casualties. Alternately, if they can trade a Skeji, Staal, or Smith for non-contract players, they can maybe finagle a Strome signing.

If true, That's honestly not a bad signing for Kreider. Hope that's the case. He needs to stay with the NYR.

where?

I'm sure it's not the most reliable thing in the universe, but I just wanted to see how it'd look on paper in case it does turn out to be true. I saw the rumor on an Instagram account titled "puckempire" in a post yesterday

Howden as the 3C is giving me nightmares. I also think that Tony D contract may be a touch light. He will want to make up for him being so underpaid this year

I'm hoping Tony D can stomach a 5mil contract until 21-22 when we will have the books nice and clean to give him what he deserves. A lot of this hinges on whether or not we can re-sign him. I really hope we do.

(On that note, I'm going to edit the team and give Tony D's term 2 years instead of 5 years, to reflect that)

As far as Howden, that'd be the casualty for missing out on signing Strome. There's really nobody else to play 3C right now. That's a problem to be solved next year or in 21-22, unless some kind of ELC swap gives us someone with 3C potential

As much as I love Keider. But do we really want to sign a powerforward almost 7 Million until he is 35? We should learn from history. Right now we can laugh about the Islanders and how bad Lee´s contract could be in 2-3 years. Do we want to enter our cup window with a big contract from an aging player when we need to sign all prospects after their ELC.

The Rangers got extremely lucky with this rebuild so much so I'm not sure you can even call it a rebuild. They got Trouba and Fox for basically nothing. Then signed Panarin and got the second pick in last years draft, putting them way ahead of schedule. So if you were Kreider would you want to leave.

Start by burying Smith, buyout Staal and Hank also, unless he goes to a contender. It would be nice to keep Kreider at that range considering he'll age well. The only stickler is NO NTC in year 3 and beyond, that's the year we're in cap hell.

Kreider gets 7 years at 7M in free agency. DeAngelo gets 5.5M x 2 at a discount. I suspect he will want term though cause he killed it this season.

Isn’t it amazing how CK is on pace for 60 pts on a contract year and will make the same $ as Johnny Gaudreau? He ALWAYS disappears for 10-15 games at a time. It’s a contract year not coincidental that he’s all of a sudden not having scoreless droughts. Could be a good deal for 2-3 years before becoming a Lucic deal. Get the assets!

Alright, so you work right? Your boss comes along and goes listen we want to pay you full value but we can't right now but we promise in 3 years when we can we'll make it up to you by overpaying then. Do you do it? Or do you tell the boss to F off and pay the FN bill

Our problems are not their problems. This happens all the time in this sport, and I'm sure others. In addition to us still retaining RFA rights. Sign for a little less next contract or sit out the entire year unpaid. Again, completely different circumstances

I'm going to treat this as a troll post. Henrik definitely isn't getting bought out. Buying out Staal only grants a 2mil savings, which becomes even less once you replace him on the roster. Current cap hit is 5.7mil, buyout is 3.5mil, then add ~1mil for a replacement. So you save ~1 million. Not worth it. He's actually playing better as of late. It seems best to ride out his contract not to handcuff us any more seasons down the road

Well there is the Offer sheet process that DeAngelo could and should explore if NYR is unwilling to pony the 5+ million the kid deserves, look at LaBanc this season taking the team friendly and DeAngelo just played a season for about 30% of what he was worth

You're saying "look at Labanc this season" like it in any way supports your point, when instead it supports mine...
