TDL Just Around the Corner

Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Team Explanation
The Sens will undoubtedly unload some assets at the TDL, and here are some thoughts on trades and returns:

Carolina Trade: Sens send Tierney and DeMelo to the Canes and get back the 1st that Carolina is shopping. Both players have much lower cap hits than they should and will help with the playoff push for Carolina. 1st would likely be conditional on something to do with the playoffs or the players re-signing. Would become a 2nd otherwise.

Edmonton Trade: With McDavid out, and even when he's back, Edmonton needs some forward depth. Pageau can slot in as the 3C while McDavid is out, and then either he or RNH can shift to the wing. Ennis can move up and down the Edmonton lineup and provide some speed and skill on the wing. In return the Sens get Puljujarvi and a 1st conditional on playoff performance or Pageau re-signing. Would become a 2nd otherwise.

Colorado Trade: Avs get a veteran with playoff experience who can help mentor Makar and Girard off the ice and possibly be a sixth D when required. Cost of a 3rd is relatively light for a team that needs some vets around the team to keep the younger players calm.

Anaheim Trade: Probably not going to happen, as a contender will probably pay more, but if the Sens can swing a trade using 2nds and 3rds to bring Kase to the capital. Kase is defensively responsible and can contribute when required. He would be a great player to bring in and help the bottom 6 in Ottawa.

Signings: After the NCAA season is over, the Sens will probably sign at least JBD and Wilkie to get a little NHL exposure. I think they'll probably bring Pinto on board as well, with the potential of an undrafted player being added as well.

I could see Holland doing this if the Edmonton trade read something like this:

"2020 conditional 2nd round pick*

*The 2nd round pick becomes a 1st round pick in 2020 if the Oilers reach the conference final and Pageau plays in at least 50% of those playoff games."

Even still, I don't think he does this without having a pretty good idea that Pageau will re-sign, and for a reasonable amount.

Yup. That’s probably his value, but not much point selling that low on him.

OTT would probably have to take on Gagner for cap but other than that, looks probable.
