I see my idea is slowly slipping into your mind as well.
I don't see a ton of value in Nylander here so we aren't also giving up a pick.
In general though I think that the base trade (one of Toronto's 4 block guys) for Murphy is roughly the move.

Murphy is more valuable then Kap. I'm seeing Nylander as worth a 3rd (not a 2nd) but bumping up to a 2nd balances the trade difference between Murphy and Kap. Rightfully so, Chicago fans won't like it.

Now you are talking....... ( tho Nylander is attractive only from the premise that you can arrange a Jokiharju flip with BUF )

Pretty good deals. Just wondering why you're taking RNH from EDM, he's due to become UFA in a year and a half, and I'm pretty sure he's not sticking for yet another rebuilding team.

Also don't see EDM taking Lehner without dumping ond of Koskinen or Smith.

Hawks flip him at the TDL the following year

Agreed but they're good cap wise this year but long term they'd probably wanna dump Koskinen cause 4.5 is a lot for a backup (Smith is ufa)

I've gotta disagree there, but whatever. We are talking a theoretical trade that is off by a total of a 2nd?
Close enough

Nope, not happening. No way does Edmonton move Bromberg, Nugent-Hopkins, and the 2020 first and second round picks. Their 3rd round pick is very close to going to Calgary under the terms of the Lucic/Neal trade, and Holland will not want to sit idle until the 4th round. RNH is a critical member of what is the hottest forward line in the NHL at the moment, McDavid is out and the team needs all the offence it can get as it battles for a play-off spot. Broberg is Holland's first draft pick as the Oiler GM, and the credibility of the GM is at stake given the names he passed over to get Broberg. At this point in the season holding onto Gagne's contract is no longer a significant impediment, and he's actually providing the team some value. Lehner is a pure rental if he goes to Edmonton, they won't have the cap space to resign him. DeBrincat and Strome are high quality younger players, but neither provides the versatility that Nugent-Hopkins does, and there are other options to address McDavid's left wing, certainly without dramatically downgrading Draisaitl's.

You do know that the Errie Otters were Strome, McDavid and Cat right? Maybe the hottest junior team in recent history.

Broberg not Bromberg

I hope you realize that if the Oilers do not bring in some friends of McDavid like Strome and DeBrincat that he may just decide to request a trade out of Edmonton.

Leafs have absolutely no interest in Alex Nylander and Kapanen will not be traded as he is a truly big game hockey player as he proved last night against the Coyotes so this deal does not happen.

I didn't see it but glad he finally had a big game...long overdue

We are fine keeping Murphy too, that really doesn't move the needle in this AGM

Seems like a pretty heavy price for Turcotte. Don't know much about the players going to LAK, but 2 firsts and 2 seconds?

It is, but Turcotte is a local Chicago kid and he and Dach that should lock up our #1 and #2 center positions for the next 10 years.

Fair enough but, correct me if I'm wrong, you could probably get away with taking a first and second out of that deal.

Don't think so given that Turcotte was drafted #5 last year. I think it would be (2) 1st round picks and some B level prospects that LA likes.
