I doubt Edmonton is willing to trade its #1 while McDavid is on the sidelines. They could be out of the playoffs in a couple of weeks. I wouldn't place too much value on Puljujarvi as he might never develop into a genuine NHLer, but the #1 more than covers that.

You're undervaluing Scandella, given that it cost a fourth-rounder to acquire him at full salary and he has only proven that Buffalo undervalued him. I would say the same about Kovalchuk, only because there are bound to be a lot of teams calling to try to add a big-game player who plays for minimum wage. A team like the Leafs could add him and even shrink their cap.

"Edmonton made it clear in the Taylor Hall sweepstakes they weren’t interested in moving their first-rounder for a rental. I’m not convinced they’d want to move Jesse Puljujarvi for one. They don’t want to touch their top defence prospects. I don’t think any of that changes with Connor McDavid injured. The only way I’d see any of that changing is if a difference-maker with term or team control is in the picture." - Elliotte Friedman

"In a recent look at the quality available in the 2020 draft, I concluded the Oilers would be foolish to deal the pick for a straight rental or even a player (like Tomas Tatar) who has one season remaining on his current contract. Why? If there’s a sliver of a chance the team can grab a talent like Jack Quinn with its first-round selection then all trade bets should be off." - Allan Mitchell

I don't think a trade like this will happen. For Domi or Drouin? Maybe, but not for Tatar.

Tatar has another full season, so not really a rental. That trade is decently valued.

... which was followed by my opinion: "I don't think a trade like this will happen."

Which I would argue by saying it's enterely depends on EDM's standing at the TDL. Maybe it would be better if they throw a lottery protection on that first rounder.

Of course. But even still, it doesn't make sense to go after a 29-year-old, soon to be free agent in decline. That package for Domi or Drouin would make way more sense for Edmonton.

I have to stop you... In decline?? Dude is almost a ppg this year. 6th season straight with 20+ goals and he only played 7 season.. Not saying is worth McDavid or anything, but he's definitively worth a protected 1st round and a bust
