Right...please define top prospect !?... besides your quick google search i dont think size and weight is exactly the best way to judge the quality of a prospect. Just ask the bigger heavier johnny gaudreau...

it doesnt have to be a prospect but it should be if you arent parting with picks

Jankowski , 1st and conditional 3rd (if Gallagher re-signs with CGY it becomes a 1st )

Janko is declining in CGY but i think could be a solid alternative to Thompson going forward .
the 1st in 2020 is the main piece but the conditional 3rd makes it work for both teams .
CGY doesnt pay more unless Gallagher stays
MTL gets Size and Grit to lead the bottom line after Thompsons gone and picks our Draft Dept can use to fill our depth charts . (more drafted prospects with intentional experience and medals from 2017-now then the previous 10 years combined )

i missed it when Gaudreau played in the AHL

Smaller players make the jump direct to the NHL or leave for europe

Philips if taken would be the smallest player in the league and the 2nd smallest player under contract behind Gerbe .
you're trying to sell a line by trying to draw a comparison between Gaudreau and a no body who will do nothing

Sold
Danault was in a worse position with less expereince then Janko when we got him
that worked out great for us because he fit a need .

Janko fits a need with a 4th line guy who can step up not if but When MTL gets injured .
we need above all a guy who will fight if needed but not as the first option .
like Chiarot i find janko fits into that role .

Janko will have an immediate role to play digging out pucks on the boards and parking himself around the net just like Armia has done with unforseen success .

he's still young and had shown steady growth up until this year when he nose dived

Right, because everyone knew gaudreau was going to tear up the league right out of college. Exactly why every team skipped out on him multiple times. I get what you're saying, but just because players don't become superstars right out of junior doesn't mean they aren't going to turn in to regular NHLers. Both dube and mangiapane are both undersized players and both worked through the farm team and have cracked the starting roster. Phillips was just called up before hurting his knee. Im not saying hes going to become Johnny hockey, but I am saying he's become a B+ / A- prospect...IMO

You have one A-/B+ prospect and it’s Pelletier, Valimaki A if you consider him a prospect, the rest of them are B prospect or lesser

Gaudreau didn’t play in the AHL because he decided to play in college and finish there before going pro. Calgary tried to sign him 2 years prior but he didn’t want to. Also he’s only 1 inch shorter and 5 pounds lighter than Yamamoto.

I'm sure Eichel would want to leave the Sabres...but doubt he would "demand". Lots of players want to get out of their situation and think the grass is greener is elsewhere.
I respected Trouba of the Jets who wanted to leave the Jets as soon as he could. But he respectfully just worked the CBA, so he could become UFA in the shortest amount of time, kinda forcing the Jets hand one year before his UFA period. Eichel has no real reason to complain. He took max money and term, he knew the Sabres rather feeble situation when he signed the 10m X 8 year contract.
