the penguins aren't taking Staal at 6 million. They don't have the cap space to do that. You'd have to retain a fair chunk of that.

"If Staal waives his NMC"

Convo be like:

"Hey Eric, waive your NMC and come play for us. We'll even ask your brother to waive his NMC so we can trade him away"

LOL great logic.

That's why Bjugstad is in the deal bud, it's a 1.1 mil increase, no rention needed. Staal gives them an upgrade at 3C

Eric has a modified no trade clause and I doubt Carolina is on it. It would be odd if they went this route, but they could pull it off if they kept their cards hidden...

I assume Minnesota would be okay with a package like that for Brodin and the good staal?

There is no way the pens can take that 6m for next yr + ... Now w/ Zucker we will prob have to move out like 3-5m just to sign RFAs

That's why Bjugstad's 4.9 is in the trade, it's not a big increase, and it's only 1.1 extra.....

Wrong - It's a 1.9 million increase friend. Staal is signed through 2023 vs. Bjugstad 2021 guy. No chance Pens acquire Staal bud

There is just all kinds of wrong with that. 6 - 4.1 = 1.9, not 1.1
Staal's contract is 2 years longer than Bjugstad's so the $1.9M difference only lasts for 1 year and 2 months while the $6M hit affects the Pens for two more years.

Staal is solid at faceoffs and good defensively, but non offensive and he is not worth $6M. Bjugstad's contract does not offset that.

Bjugstad, 2nd, 4th for J.Staal w/$1.5M retained.

Carolina aren't retaining. Instant no. JJ 50% retained, Bjugstad 2nd and 3rd for Staal

Ah, my friend. Staal was a penguin, and Bjugstad has been invisible as a 3C per many pens fans. Staal gives you attribued that no one else on Pittsburgh does guy, you'd be surprised bud.

As Staal was already a Penguin, as you pointed out, how would Penguin fans be surprised by what he brings?

In a 6 - 4.1 = 1.1 surprised kind of way?
Or in a everyone saying no to Bjugstad, 2nd for Staal, so you make it Bjugstad, 2nd, 3rd, Johnson 50% ret for Staal, surprised kind of way?

No way the pens can afford Staals 6 million in year 3 and 4. Nor can they afford his 6 million on top of 1.625 million of JJ’s retained salary in years 3 and 4. You really don’t understand how the cap works, bud. But if the pens could get away with being over the cap, I’d be all for it 😂

Remembering that the cap is gonna go up, Pittsburgh are gonna lost Murray to Seattle, there's plenty of cap there. I know how the cap works, I live on this site, and they could afford it.... it's be tight, but by that point, even Geno may be gone

Except before Staals contract ends, McCann, Kahun, Simon, Jarry, Marino, Malkin, Letang, DeSmith, Blueger will need new contracts and most will get a raise, if not a significant raise. Not to mention the pens will then need to get a 3rd pair RHD cause Ruhwedel isn’t good enough to play in an everyday capacity.

if you are still arguing that the penguins can afford this, they you really don't.
They can't man. I'm just laying out the facts here. They don't have 6 million to drop on a center. Hell they probably need to dump Jugs for cap relief to be honest. We'll know come the off season when they have to sign those RFAs.
