The reason I ask is because I can only assume OP is attempting to find a way to give STL this extra cap they'd need to do it and STL would have to move some players out for it to work.

Do you guys think both guys could be traded with zero cap coming back? Even if they could, simply signing everyone to normal contracts would leave things pretty tight. No?

I didn't say zero cap would come back, but I'm sure Army can handle it. If both those guys are moved, there will be plenty of space to re-up Petro. Dunn and Blais, both RFAs, are the only other major pieces that will need a new deal this summer.

If STL takes back any salary and Pietrangelo gets market value, Both RFA's get average contracts, it'll be tight/over the cap. Assuming a 82.5m cap ceiling. i just did a mock to check myself.

I don't know what you consider market (which STL won't need to pay to retain him, mind you) or average, but the cap will probably be more like 83.5. If Petro gets $9M, Dunn/Blais/Mac/De la Rose get a combined $6M or so and Allen is dealt for a future, we'd be less than $800K over and easily able to get under with so much as one more trade. It's not so dire as you think.

Well, moving them and the cap going up. I think Allen will be replced by Husso so at least a 3 million drop. Bozak has in house replacements in Thomas/Sundqvist without a glaring hole in the top 9, call it probably a 4 million drop. then cap goes up by 2-3 million so yes.
