Description
Would Montreal EVER part ways with Danault? I think he'd be a great piece for the leafs to add going forward. Wins faceoffs and great at defence. Also has a decent offensive upside. Obviously would have to cost a decent amount to get him, but if montreal blows it up, would they let him go for the right price?

I'm sure they would for the right price, which is significantly more than Toronto will be willing to pay.

Hard to say IMO. Danault is playing much higher in the lineup on MTL then he should. He's a very solid 3C on teams with true #1 and #2 centerman like the Leafs. Problem with MTL is they don't have centermen depth outside of younger prospects and those need time to groom.

Right price for them?? Yes. Right price for what Toronto is willing, or acgms, give up?? Probably not...

I think he's earned #2 status now in the league. On teams where they have a legit #1 and #2, most guys are are going to be #3 and those are far and between. Most teams #2 centerman is a 50 point guy. Danault is that and defensively resilient. All while doing it with little PP time.

Put Danault next to Kane and Debrincat and he's arguably one of the better #2's in the league. He's the closest thing to a #2 version of Bergeron out there right now.

I think that would be a good spot to start at.

I don't think that the Leafs would be looking to acquire Danault. They seem high on Kerfoot right now, who is locked up for longer and is younger. For that reason, if Montreal were interested in Kerfoot...

I think he's SUPER underrated. I'd love a guy like him on the leafs. People say we have kerfoot and stuff but Danault is light years ahead of him imo. I totally agree with what you're saying. The problem with the leafs depth is wondering if he'd fall into the Kadri treatment and be too good for the role they give him. He'd definitely would get lots of ice time though, especially on the PK and end of the game when leafs suck at closing out third periods. Probably more of a dream haha, dont think the leafs have anything MTL would want for a rebuild aside from maybe robertson

Mik is in his mid 20's though. He's not a super young prospect they'd probably want back if they were rebuilding. They'd want a guy like Roberston imo

You would probably have to flip a guy like kerfoot or johnsson to get some picks and prospects back to then trade for Danault. Montreal wouldnt want anyone on the leafs roster (who are expendable) so they'd want a younger prospect. Trading mik, johnsson or kerfoot to them is useless. It'd just add to their mediocrity which isnt successful for a rebuild.

Mtl would be trade him to Toronto ONLY if they overpay for him.. They would not trade a 26 yo center who's on pace for a second 50 points+ season to a division rival. It would take some crazy assets back for Bergevin to think about it.
