Hanafin is pretty much a 3rd pair defenseman. He hasn't really been as good as people thought he would become

If I was getting paid over 5 million dollars to play in Anaheim I would laugh atthe thought of waiving my NTC to go to Calgary! I wouldn't mind the move though, I think he would be a good fit.

If I was

I think the Flames would look for more of a sure thing this time around

I don't think Hanifin moves, it would be selling low on a really good young player with a great contract.

I wanted to include him but I figured the Flames may not have the horses in the system to get a package done for him without dramatically effecting their line up now. Would absolutely love that addition. What do you think the ask would be?

That really depends on if Nashville wants/thinks they can use their draft pick on a center prospect this year. Solid option though

Lol what? He averages 20 minutes a night with mostly defensive zone starts, gets lots powerplay and PK time and has a positive corsi%. Nice hot take there my guy

Probably a good d prospect + Bennett + 1st or something like that - maybe even a deal centered around a swap of Monahan/Johansen? Not quite sure, I don't know CGY prospect situation too well.

He really needs to be sheltered and even then being drafted 5th overall he should be much better

Valimaki/Kylington, Bennet/Pelletier, and a 1st +. Probably not enough but it'd get the ball rolling on discussion. Depending on the direction Nashville wants to go.

It could be done if you base it similar to the Leafs Pens trade with Kessel. Send Bennett and Pelletier 1st and 3rd for RyJo (10-15% retention)and a 2nd. Conditions on the picks and like Janko/Czarnik for cap purposes.

He's been playing with an incredibly defensive d man in Hamonic that is great for sheltering young D for the entire year and hasn't had great numbers, he has played with Andersson periodically this year who provides little to no protection in a pairing and has been way better. Your statement is completely backwards and goes to show how little you know on the situation.

As a Wings fan i'd do something around Oliver Kylington+Calgary's 2020 2nd round pick for Andreas Athanasiou. That's a pretty fair offer.

Staal Bonino and MAYBE Turris, Zacha or Carter are the only guys I'd trust as my 2C

Except Calgary does worse defensively when hanafin is on the ice then when he isnt. Andersson has also been fantastic this season both offensively and defensively so he is not getting held back by any means.
Hes also playing against secondary competition with good linemates. At best hes a 2nd pairing defenseman

Have you ever actually wat hed a flames game? As for "they do worse when hes on the ice" his CF% rel is at -0.1, which is tied with Backlund and better then Monahan, Ryan, Hamonic, Dube, and Jankowski as well as others.
