Gardiner has more points than 9 of the forwards since the all star break. This makes no sense

That stat line doesn't really mean anything as the sample size is too small (6 games). Dumba > gardiner.

As someone who loves analytics, I could not disagree more. Gardiner's analytics are MADLY insane. They won't acquire someone with poor analytics for an analytical darling. Eric Tulsky may kill someone

They would be looking at necas and pick. Whether or not it is the price you want to pay that is their quoted ask.

Then there's no deal here. Necas is an instant deal breaker for anyone (unless it's like McDavid or some ****)

Necas is good... but you are getting a bit carried away.

Probably not Necas, But it would take at least Suzuki and then some. Those pieces aren't getting you Dumba.

Necas is a long term projected 2C, and could even be a 1C. That's just the quality of player he is. He's a rookie and he's tied 4th in scoring among forwards

4th on the canes. I would put him on par with a player like hischier for value.

I understand that analytics are important, but at some point you have to use the eye test. Just out of curiosity what are your thoughts on Gardiner's play this season, analytics aside?

Analytics don't get you everywhere. Gardiner doesn't show up in big moments. & that's coming from someone who works in analytics

He's been unlucky. He generates a SHED ton of offensive chances. His defense isn't anything to write home about but I've liked his game, there's just no finish.

Hischier is a fair comparison. The core of the canes consists of Aho, Teravainen, Svech, and Slavin. Necas is certainly making a strong case to join this core, if he hasn't already so he's not gonna be traded.

Nico is arguably a top 15 C in the NHL, he's one of the few bright spots on a crappy devils team. Necas won't be that good, but he'll be kinda like someone like Trocheck

I don't want unlucky players on my team. If you go through a ten game stretch where the puck doesn't go in that's one thing. But Gardiner has been "unlucky" his whole career and is showing no sign of ending that trend.

Gardiner was great in toronto, his production per chance created was great. You're using a 50 game sample size to review a players career luck and it's just wrong

It's not just point production, it's the success of the team surrounding him. If you're throwing out an "unlucky" defenseman in a crucial game 7, it probably won't end well (just ask leafs fans).

You can't blame one man for a team's failure
