I don't mind if costs a 4th but Caps shouldn't be spending anymore on a 4th liner. We have Boyd as the extra who is really really good.

If the Kings are retaining I think this will likely be a third, Lewis is one of our few speedy guys who is a great 2-way player and provides PK help. But 4th sounds about right if there is nothing retained (Kings are already retaining on Clifford and will likely retain on Toffoli, they'll want to not retain if they want to use that as a chip for Martinez)

Cap hits are pro-rated, do they really need to retain on Trevor Lewis to make $2M fit? According to their CapFriendly page, the Caps have more than enough room to fit his entire salary.

The Kings can only retain on 3 contracts at a time. They're already retaining on Clifford's contract, so if they retain on Lewis, that only gives them one more retention slot until July 1. If deals materialize for Quick or Carter around the draft, I'm sure they'd like the flexibility to be able to retain on those guys.

Lewis seems pretty redundant to me. Unless you're really focused on having a fourth line that's solely a defensive/shut-down line, it doesn't make much sense to me. Is Lewis really that much of an upgrade over Leipsic? I'm not sure. He scores a fraction higher regarding points per game, but it seems odd to give up a pick for a player that doesn't add anything we don't currently have.

If the Caps didn't have both Panik and Hagelin, I'd be okay with grabbing him. Panik and Hagelin have very similar (but slightly better) possession metrics, and score more points. I'd probably push more for a middle-six guy who can score, and slot Hagelin down to the fourth line.

Maybe BMGM has another deal in place for a D man that includes someone like Boyd, so this deal would make sense as a replacement. FWIW I kinda like Lewis for a cup run depth guy and a 4th is practically nothing.
