Probably will be mutual, or he might retire. Contract is one season too long, it is time to move on.

Why buy him out? You could probably move him. I can see a team like CAR very interested.

I’m sure they will try to trade him but he’s got the NTC and hasn’t shown any interest yet in going elsewhere. He’s also carrying a gnarly cap hit that nobody will want to take on. After watching the Shattenkirk disaster where the entire league lowballed us because they knew we would dump him if we couldn’t trade him, I have little doubt this scenario would play out the same way.

    I like the DAL trade.

    FLA can't afford that however.

Hank did say he realizes that the franchise is more important than one player and he understands and has no problem with whatever they decide to do.

They have forwards coming off the books next year, the trade is set up as an offseason trade, not deadline. Hoffman’s money almost pays for Skjei and apparently they’re trying to move Matheson

They're most likely re-signing one of Dadonov/Hoffman, and also Weegar, Hawryluk and Malgin need new contracts. Add that they're most likely after another goalie since Bob has turned out terrible, they are lacking spare money to throw in trades.

That is, unless you include Matheson in the deal for Skjei.

$17m seems like enough to do all of that easily, minus the goalie thing. Can’t imagine they’re going to invest anything into goaltending and sit $10m Bobs when they have Knight in the system.

NYR will have no interest in Matheson except for to flip him, there’s already plenty of defense in the pipeline. But if they want to get Denisenko into the trade, I’m sure we could help the cap dump.

Not a long-term invest, per se... Maybe someone like Halak or Greiss for a two year deal or something to that sort.

Can't see FLA moving Denisenko at this point.

nmc and it makes financial sense for hank to be bought out. he'd make almost the same amount of money over 2 years on the buy out.

So much for signing Hawryluk, they thought so much of him they put him on waivers and he’s in Ottawa now.
