STL - TRADE w TOR EDM SJS

Created by: PuckShmuck87
Team: 2019-20 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 13, 2020
Published: Feb. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sorry, but Faulk has not played well in the Blues' system. I think that he would be a better fit for TOR and would bolster their inadequate D. Could rediscover his All-Star form in Toronto. STL needs to rebuild its backline and dump some salary. EDM has a chance of making the playoffs, but they need goaltending and some additional forwards. Smith makes sense for STL. He's a solid #2 and comes off the books at season-end. SJS should be rebuilding, might let go of Dillon, a solid defender (would consider sending another draft pick SJS's way). Nobody has cap space to spare, so this is a little tricky. Also, I'm assuming that JBo is done for the year, but who knows? If so, he goes to LTIR and thta should open open some cap space.

Lol what is that Edmonton trade. 1 season of good goal tending from Allen doesn't erase the last 2 years of mediocrity. Edmonton would rather not have his his cap hit for this season and next. Smith is like 7-1-2 over his last 10 games with like a .930 SV% or something, so they aren't trading him right now. Also they definitely aren't giving up Bouchard, who could be the elite passing dman and pp specialist they've needed for years. Johnsson for a pick and a different prospect might interest them though

OK. This fascination of trading over paid underachieving players just to the Leafs just because they are RHD. Faulk is getting 6.5. for the next 7 years. This proposal has 1m retention so the Leafs are on the hook for 5.5m X 7. No thanks from the Leafs. I play RHD, I'll play for minimum and then the Leafs have 4.75m to spend elsewhere.
The reason you gave for the Blues for dumping Faulk. To get cap space and rebuild the blue line. Gee the exact same reason the Leafs say no to Faulk.

What on God's green flat earth is that Sharks trade? Reinke AND a first for Dillon? Dillon isn't worth a first on his own. And no way in heck will get Nurse and Bouchard in any trade let alone with their first.

These are all bad.

Leafs say no. Faulk is a third pairing defenseman paid like a first or second. Why we traded for or signed him is beyond me, but the leafs had every opportunity to do the same last summer and didn't, which was a smart decision by them.

Everyone is saying Edmonton should be upset but honestly so should the Blues at that trade. It helps neither team. Dunn is cheaper, younger, and has more upside than Nurse. Kyrou has played at an All-Star level everywhere he goes up until now and he all the potential in the world to do the same at the NHL level, which is good for a team that already has established wingers and can ease him in like the Blues but not good for Edmonton because they need him to play now and don't have time to ease him in. Allen would be an upgrade over Smith, despite everyone saying he's bad. He's only bad when he's been asked to be the #1 guy, but he's played great in a tandem. As long as they'd have Koskinen, he'd probably be great. But he's probably not worth the extra cap for the Oilers. Bouchard is cool but there's not a lot of room for him on this team unless you let Pietrangelo walk, which I think would be a bad idea, and Oilers need Bouchard very badly. And the Oilers have said multiple times they aren't dealing their first round pick. If the Faulk deal doesn't go through, which it doesn't, we don't have Johnsson. And there's that trade.

Huge overpay on Dillon as a rental. I like Dillon and he'd be a good J-Bo replacement but yikes at that price, plus the only RHD we have in our system.

After @Jamiepo 's team post I ran this comment down to see what generated JP's musings. Thanks for the entertainment, guys!

Now everyone stop trading Josh Manson to Toronto. He's not the Messiah some people think and he's all we got.
