Why Trade Toffoli

Created by: Seaver28
Team: 2020-21 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2020
Published: Feb. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Why is LA so bent on trading TT? He's a decent goal scorer, probably close to 30 if he plays with Kopitar fulltime. They need scoring and have ZERO proven scorers coming up. If there was a solid younger/cheaper option then getting a 1st for TT seems fine. It just doesn't make sense.

are you new to contracts?

It might have to be due to the fact that if they don't trade him, LA gets nothing? Gambling on a guy resigning as a rebuilding team is a very risky and almost dumb move to make.

Toffoli would resign. He loves LA. It's LA... Not just any rebuilding team.

Exactly what Wqrrior said
Also by the time the team is ready to compete TT might be 5 or 10 years older

Because they are rebuilding and need picks more then 27yo wingers. If they want him back just sign him this summer.

Well, it's difficult to know exactly what they think. He might present himself as that and then really want something else. Consider Pavelski and SJS. Many people thought he would be a career Shark.

Again, it's a risk. LA can't really be taking risks. If there's no contract talk progressions two mondays by now he should be moved. They can always resign him.

(i mean he's a rental, that's what teams do, they trade rentals) but yeah, his value defiantly seems to be the lowest of the (good young) rentals this year, by a good margin, and I don't think the difference between him and Kreider is that big, their asking prices are miles apart, one fanbase demands a 2020 first, your best spec, sometimes+, and LAK's rumored asking price is seemingly a second+b spec

Here’s where I’m at on it.

Toffoli to Calgary has been kicked around in the media a fair bit.

I’ve lived in Calgary my whole life and travelled to LA several times. Talk about what a lifestyle change that would be, going from the beaches to snowy winters.

I get that not everyone thinks the same as me, but if I’m Toffoli, I already have a cup. I personally would be willing to take less to stay in LA. There’s a lifestyle there you can’t find many other places

It's actually better to trade him now that he's playing well. LA can ask for a higher price and get a couple decent picks and a prospect now that his trade value might be increasing

He'll be traded and I don't want him resigned I'm just saying I think if that's what Blake wanted they could probably get it done easily.

It's not gambling if they sign him. Seems like he wants to stay in LA and they might be able to squeeze a nice home town discount. He's traded he's not coming back because he'll get more playing the field and LA won't be interested later.

LA has #1 prospect pool, they're not that far off. 2-3 years. Besides, by that logic they should be shopping Kopitar and Doughty. If it's a full rebuild then no one should be safe.

Playoffs. By definition that means competing for the cup. Long, long shot but not #30th.

II definitely don't see this team as having the #1 prospect pool. No stand out guys besides Turcotte. Mostly just guys capped at 2nd line. And even as a top 5 prospect pool, there's a pretty high chance a percentage of them don't work out and or the team taking a while to rebuild. My own team in Vancouver serves as an example. We had the #1 prospect pool for years and still took 5 years to get to even talking about the playoffs, nevermind being competitive.

-2 last game and yeah, a good debut. But players come in strong as rookies. Look at Poehling last year. Vilardi will be good, but he won't be your franchise cornerstone 1C
