Guess it's all about the CUP being shined and oiled up on Pete's Beach this June tick-tock, tick-tock...
Hey if that happens, lets say you won't give a flying Fu-oooote - NO?

This is a good trade for both sides.

Tampa now has the best team in the league, and New Jersey gets another 1st rounder

Technically they got two. Foote was first round pick from 2019.

Which makes this a f*cking overpayment.

Bah.

That amount of value should've brought a lot better return...

What you dont understand was how BAD last years loss was.. there was zero chance of Cup without more defensive forwards .. and helps with cap next year at 1.8M .. costly yes but most of Tampa talent over 30 now

Honestly, if Tatar would’ve gotten this return I’d be happy. So if Coleman is worth two 1st’s...what they hell can my Habs get for Tatar!?

After the sticker shock you realize you are getting:
- one of the best contracts in the league
- a guy who can score (5v5 goals production similar to Eichel, Kucherov and other stars)
- a guy that has a shot rate per 60 second only to Ovie
- a guy with 166 hits so far this season (most of any Lightning player currently)
- one of the best PKers in the league
He's essentially exactly what TB should have been after.

Tampa gave quite a lot to get him, but I genuinely feel like there was no better player the Bolts could add. This guy is the **** we've been missing in the last playoff runs, but has great skills to go with it.
And the fact that he only has a 1.8M cap hit while being a replacement and upgrade to Killorn, will make it very easy to move him this summer.

My first reaction was WTF, but the more I calmly think about this trade, the more I like it.

The trade is fine for Tampa, sure it would've been nice to keep Foote, but he wasn't making the roster for 2-3 seasons anyway. Although Vancouver's 1st will be earlier than Tampa's, it's not a guaranteed 1st in a deep draft class this year, where as Tampa's is. Tampa has never liked to trade for straight rentals and with Coleman's low cap hit for this year and next, it drove the price up. Tampa is in win now mode and a player like Coleman fits very well. I'd say perhaps a slight overpay, but nothing drastic. Tampa will also recoup some assets when they trade Killorn or one of the other guys (if they agree to waive and most likely at the draft). Good trade for NJ as well as they are rebuilding and now have potentially 3 1sts in a deep class and several good to possibly great young players.

Not gonna lie tho, can't wait to see Coleman and Cirelli working together on the PK or to protect a 1 goal lead. Opponents will get so ****ing frustrated lmao

Glad you changed your opinion about the Coleman trade.... i hope you also changed your opinion on Palat and now you can understand finally after 50 games that why is he Cooper's favourite player...
You see afterall in the summer i told ya, he is not that bad smile I'm telling the same about Coleman, i actually kept an eye on him when i watched some random New Jersey games, and i really liked him.
I thought multiple times, can we trade for him. But it looked like they will rather trade other guys first. Like Vatanen,Simmonds etc...
He is really strong + also have some skill! His PK skills are matching Paquette's + Tony's levels.

I'm telling you, it's gonna help us in the playoffs so much. I would before this trade would have given us sub 50% chance vs Washington Capitals: our most likely opponent who destroys us with Wilson,Gudas,Hatheway etc... and the ageless Ovechking with 50+ goals season + Norris candidate Carlson + a super hot Binnington type goalie in Samsonov = Washington is the real deal this year.
Now after this trade: we have over 50% chance to beat them, which is a big thing. Don't get fooled by the recent results of this 2018 cup winning team. They are insane. They are only missing 1 good defenseman . If they get it, it's probably 50-50 again. But we can also trade for more players. So then the advantage on our side.
At this moment it's Tampa-Wash conference finals. In the finals i still have no idea who will be there. But those teams are not huge threats except St. Louis Blues.
If we can get a little bit lucky and avoid only that 1 team, we can win the whole thing. Last year we had no defense so that was a leak, because of the Hedman's injury. But this year fingers crossed Hedman will be full heathy at least 80% of the playoffs = we should be good for a cup final. Or we lose again vs Washington but thats ok... All other teams in the west are bad/ have leaks. On east it's no contest.... I have only 1 dark horse Philadelphia Flyers... so i hope we avoid the 1st round matchup vs them... that's it... other than that we should be good... we will never play like early season like vs Carolina Hurricanes / New York Islanders
Now we can beat them with consistency.
Those types of teams who either missing goaltender/offense/have injured players out for season.
Maybe 1 hard matchup is Pittsburgh Penguins with the Zucker trade... but we went 3-0 all 3 close games vs them. So it's not gonna be easy series, but we can beat them like 4-3... which is good enough... you need one or two 4-3(or 4-2) series before the finals anyways to be ready...
Anyways things looks good... let's hope the injury bug avoid us, then we should be good for a super deep run... I'm already hyped for a playoffs run... just no 0-4 sweep pls again... that was painful... losing 3-4 still hurts, but 0-4 ouch... i don't want to experience that again... frown

8% shooting percentage + 0.920 SV% + under 2.5GAA (current streak Vasy has like under 0.930 & 2.0 GAA but i know you can't keep up those numbers long run)all we need for the Stanley-Cup. With Coleman the 8% is far more easier. He scored 20! From dirty areas and on 5v5.
We need to give a little rest to Vasi, then he can give us with a good defensive system the 0.920 SV%, then we should be in good shape for whole playoffs...

It's a really good return, yes we all would've liked to pay less or put condition to the 1st, but we can live with it. I just paste my long analysis about him from another topic:

Hmm, interesting! I didn't expect a trade this soon. Looked like a dry market for sooo long... nuiiiceeee...
It's gonna be a long post again, sorry. rolling eyes

So:
We just got "A Diamond in the Rough"

If we win the Cup in 2020/2021 with the help of "pickles", (that's his nickname) then it was def worth the steep price. If we fail, it was still worth a shot to go for it. nod
It's not like we are Columbus Blue Jackets who went allin for 1 playoffs round win(bad strategy by GM), our team is stacked and by all bookmakers+analytics guys top5 fav to win the cup this year. Even after the disastrous start in oct-dec...

I'm disappointed in the comments(but not the votes): BriseBois did well once again!cool
Coleman was on my target list since 2019 middle: But i thought the price is too high for him... Looks like i was right... I'm still happy about this trade, and can't wait to see him in our jersey.
Just like Maroon, everybody is going to love this guy. Heart Eyes We had garbage PK last year's playoffs, this trade ensures that our PK is gonna be rock solid this year's playoffs.

Imagine Point,Cirelli as our only 2 top tier defensive forwards - we missed a 3rd one for a long time in our lineup(palat is not bad,but still not elite): it's Coleman. Oh baby it's a triple! applaud rock on applaud
Defense = everything in the playoffs, forgot about the 20 goals he scored... if we can stop Ovechkin,Barzal,Crosby,Malkin,Pastrnak in the playoffs to score every game vs us, we can go deep. And he will def help with that part.
Toronto got Clifford, except he doesn't have offensive upside. It was cheaper, but they might not even make the playoffs... so it's not about who wins the trades for contenders... it's about who wins the cup... Will Toronto win the cup with Clifford? We'll see about that in a few months...

So about trade value:if Canucks make the playoffs: around 20-25th draft pick = unknown, even in a super deep great draft - not what we need
Foote = projected 2nd round pick = still unknown, we only picked him because of history with the other Foote(s). He looks to be like Blake Coleman 2.0 in 2025... worth to wait until then with prime Kuch+Stammer+Pointerz+Mr. Norris&Vezina? I doubt it...

Tampa Bay Lightning All-in FTW, now we need to get a RHD and we are set.
My choice: Josh Manson or Jonas Brodin for a 1st round pick + prospect(s) if needed.
We can still go after Risto as well, like last year... Let's see if BriseBois will get him this time or Buffalo Sabres keep him 4ever for no reason...
(they need to tank = the worse defense u have ---> the better chance u can tank - check what Yzerbro & Detroit doing this year... wink I hope Detroit gets 1st overall, but top4 still should be solid for them...)

So for playoffs, Dream Defense:
Hedman-Manson(Brodin/Risto)
McDonagh-Cernak
Sergy-Shatty

Backups in case of injuries: Rutta,Schenn,Coburn - when they are fresh&fully healthy they are not that bad, but when they are tired and vs top opponents = AHL level defense from all of those 3 unfortunately
I don't wanna start the playoffs with Rutta starting... top players can exploit him too easily... Schenn donates free goals for opponents in every 2nd game...

Oh and i forgot to mention: Coleman, unlike Point or Cirelli, hits a lot(like Paquette) and he hits hard = huge value in the playoffs.
1.8 mill $ caphit = insane for next 1.5 years... (makes it one of the best contract in whole NHL and we can also extend him, if he wants to stay. Comparables: Couturier,Labanc
Skinner = 9 million $ vs. Coleman 1.8 million $
This contract helps us give new contracts to Serg+Cirelli+Cernak and we can sell 1(or 2) of Killorn/Johnson/Gourde. Depends who is willing to go...
I would keep Killorn - and let the other 2 go, but that's gonna be hard to do considering the NTC's.

If someone still has some doubts about him or the trade, here are some advanced stats about him.
It's important to note he played on a bad team, without a good goalie + horrible defense + bad offense... Yet the numbers looks good:
Offense:
colembl91colembl91

+3% overall = respectable

Defense:
colembl91colembl91

+10% = elite level on defense, additionally he is like Paquette on the PK
plus-minus stat: -2, compared to Zajac+Gusev he is much better...again pretty good... so it's not just shots...

For Tampa fans: think of him, like we got Kreider for 1.5 years. It's debatable who is the better player right now... For caphit/ $ value for next 1.5 years Coleman wins hands down...
Kreider = 0.5 years only = pure rental... If someone extends Kreider = huge caphit = not what we need for 2020/2021.
Devils won the trade no doubt, but it's still a really good deal for us = almost a win-win in the vote... not too shabby...
I would take him over Zucker as well... and Penguins paid similar price... for worse caphit...
This trade is not as bad as it looks at first sight, you just have to dig a little deeper to understand the player's value + team needs...

Other positive side of this trade: One more reason to check out couple New Jersey games in next couple years, to check how the other Foote is playing. Maybe he will play with Hughes. That would be fun to watch for sure. I'm sure he will get a lot more icetime there. So more playing time = better development hopefully for him...
The Sedin's were fun together.
Rip Foote brothers dream in tampa cry
