The trade is fine for Tampa, sure it would've been nice to keep Foote, but he wasn't making the roster for 2-3 seasons anyway. Although Vancouver's 1st will be earlier than Tampa's, it's not a guaranteed 1st in a deep draft class this year, where as Tampa's is. Tampa has never liked to trade for straight rentals and with Coleman's low cap hit for this year and next, it drove the price up. Tampa is in win now more and a player like Coleman fits very well. I'd say perhaps a slight overpay, but nothing drastic. Tampa will also recoup some assets when they trade Killorn or one of the other guys (if they agree to waive and most likely at the draft). Good trade for NJ as well as they are rebuilding and now have potentially 3 1sts in a deep class and several good to possibly great young players.

It's a good trade for us, that's all that matters. Yes indeed, i'm sad to see Nolan go, but we'll live with it if we beat the Washington Capitals Pittsburgh Penguins in the stanley cup playoffs + one west team in the finals...
Until we are in the playoffs(and not swept:we need to avoid sweep because we are deep so long series = good for us), the trade is good. If we miss the cup both 2020 and 2021, then u can say the trade is bad... until then just wait and see what happens. The % are on our side... look at the bookmakers odds and the advanced analytics guys charts. Colorado is leading, i have just seen one... we are on 2nd place for winning the cup before the trade. So obviously after the trade it will go up by couple of %...
Don't cry, be excited for a deep run smirk
We are stacked and we play defense finally. It's a copycat league -->we have just copycat the St. Louis Blues, and we play now defense as well... Last years it was 24/7 offense. Leading 3-1 --> we need 3 more goals for 6-3.... now we lead 2-1 = just keep it and go to next game = much better in the long run...

All you need in a playoffs is a good goalie + around 8% shooting percentage. Coleman is good at scoring goals 5v5 and PK/defense = playoff hockey, oh and he hits really hard like Paquette. You will love this guy, i promise...
When you're top 5 in the league u have to go for it: all-in is neccesary.
This is good for us.
We don't need a 25th pick who will be ready in 4 years... we can draft other guys until then... or get same guy from UFA market, if needed... (maroon, shatty for example). You don't need 5 good draft picks each year. You need only like 1 or 2 from the average 7... you can hit later rounds as well... see where we drafted Point,Kucherov etc...
Yes it's easier to draft Hedman 2nd overalll... but it's not the end of the world , when u miss the 1st round... BTW we still have our first round pick for 2020, so consider like trading JT Miller with a big cap hit for another JT Miller for a low caphit and already signed for next year = win for us too....

I follow the hockey guy on Youtube, i watch a lot of videos from him every day, he is the most knowledgeble hockey video maker... he watches every single match every day and knows 99.9% of players in the whole NHL. He said Tampa won the trade, look at here on Youtube it's only like 4 minutes long:
Blake Coleman Traded to Lightning for Nolan Foote and Canucks 2020 1st Round Pick

Although i think New Jersey Devils won the trade, it's not far off from a fair deal. And if Nolan Foote doesn't become the next Mark Stone... it will be good for us even on long run, as we might extend Coleman, who knows...

Let's go Tampa Bay Lightning! Bring the cup home!

You guys are either playing dumb or don't get how impactful and underrated Coleman has been this season.
Nolan Foote and Van's 1st rounder for Blake Coleman? That's surely a steep price to pay.

BUT after the first, hot take I started thinking about it more rationally and, even though at a steep price, Coleman was the best player the Bolts could have gotten at the deadline.
1) I surely prefer paying an extra for a guy with a contract till 2021 than throw prospects and picks out of the window for a rental. And what a ****ing contract. 1.8M AAV for a player that perfectly replaces Killorn and even adds in term of grit/skill/shot production but for 2.7M less? Sign me up.
2) Nolan Foote and the Van's 1st rounder wouldn't have helped Tampa go on a deep playoff run in the next few year if not by getting traded.
3) Coleman is pretty much unknown to the casual hockey fan, but we (should?!) know what he brings. Being on a 30 goals pace on a dreadful NJ team, while not getting any PP time is insanely good. Tampa adds a skilled forward that makes the best out of the deployment he gets.
4) Coleman has more hits (166) than any Bolts player.
5) His defensive/PK performances are crazy good. Can you imagine having Cirelli and Coleman both on the ice to protect the lead in the final 60 seconds of a game? That's gonna be amazing for Bolts fans, frustrating for opponents.
6) Coleman's shots/60 are second only to Ovie. The guy SHOOTS A TON.
7) Overall his offensive and defensive impact is crazy good.

8) This move really puts Tampa over the top. Let's ****ing go.
