Description
Just an outside opinion from a hawks fan here. Tom Fitzgerald deserves a serious looking at for permanent GM of the Devils. That trade was just impressive as hell. Decent, let’s say, 18-24 1st round pick AND an A prospect? For a guy at 28 years old, albeit having a great season? Awesome job! Congrats Fitz, you sound like you a smart head on your shoulders, and that’s without even bringing up a decent haul for Andy Greene. Very impressed, and so should devils fans.

Agreed. NJD is tearing it up. They need top end talent like a nolan Foote. They can sign a Coleman any time.

Agreed! In all honesty, they are in a great position to have a franchise fixing offseason as long as Fitzgerald continues to consider every option. The fact that he actual called off the Avs offer for Coleman to consider a last second offer from Tampa is huge sign of a confident GM. He thinks things out! Now, granted, the draft is a whole different animal, but the he’s done so far, who’s not gonna trust him?!

3 1st round picks in a deep draft?! Huge! I've said for years if you're rebuilding then rebuild trade anyone that isn't apart of the long term future and get prospects and picks. The fact that they got both a 1st and prospect for Coleman is really impressive and quite frankly shows the desperation the win now teams are in. If I were a Devils fan I'd be extremely excited for the future! Really intrigued to see what happens next with Simmonds, Subban, Vatanen and Palmeri.

What’s even better is that guys like Simmonds and palmieri are hot at the right time! Now is perfect to keep cashing in. You are absolutely spot on! Bright future is Fitzgerald keeps finding desperate teams to cash in on.

From what I’ve heard, it was a 1st and Connor Timmins.

Expansion time is going to be interesting, with next few trades I would just about concentrate a little on 22 draft, so when expansion time comes, could be major player on filling your protection spots beyond Hischier is wide open

You can definitely see why fitzgerald went with Tampa then. No brainer to take Foote AND a potentially higher 1st round pick.

Very interesting point! I gotta be honest, the devils do appear (at least at first glance) to be in need of players to fill out protection. Correct me if I’m wrong but I do believe ELCs are exempt from the expansion draft unless traded, and then NTCs and NMCs as well. It’ll be fascinating to see how they work that out.

Ya basically last years draft is exempt and anybody with 2 years or less on contract in play, As I understand it. Throw nmc, ntc and all that, if I’m jersey, I pretty much start with hishier and go from there as far as protected. Then u have recent draftpicks and next years picks to have something built beyond expansion draft. Seattle and Vegas will have something to say on that, but cap probably gets in the way of Vegas, and Seattle probably waits for everything to fall to them, so there’s a hole for a quick rebuild

Honestly this trade is a win for both sides, but people think Foote is this good now...? He was one of the worst first round picks in a weak draft class, most didn't have him till the mid-late second, and even at the time the consensus was it was a bad pick, I don't think he'll ever get as good as Coleman has been this yr... Not saying it's a bad trade, they pick up a first, and are going about this rebuild the right way finally

It's fitzy's job to lose, i think he keeps it

I'm more focused on which coach we hire. We neeed one with a real system that can develop players and teach them how to use their sticks in front of the net.

Also I'm anxious to see who we spend the free agent dollars on, I expect UFA signings, i just want it to be the right one
