Rakell to EDM

Created by: mytduxfan
Team: 2019-20 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2020
Published: Feb. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm sure EDM fans will barf at the sight of this proposed deal. In any event, I think this represents a fair deal for Rakell given his age, contract, and ability. The price might seem steep, but you have to consider what Coleman and Zucker just got and that it would be a trade inside the division. Bouchard could be swapped for Broberg, but I assumed that Holland wouldn't want to trade the first pick he's made as EDM GM.

EDM loses one of their 2 RHD prospects + JP (who is never going to work in EDM) + 1st, but gains some much needed scoring potential at W. Proposed current line-up (I'm not an expert on EDM line combinations, so suggested changes accepted):

Drai - McDavid - Kassian
Rakell - RNH - Yamamoto
Granlund - Haas - Neal
Chiasson - Sheahan - Archibald

Klefbom - Larsson
Nurse - Bear
Russell - Benning

Smith - Koskinen

ANA loses their best goalscorer, but gains a potential 1st pairing RH D-man + 1st + a go at turning JPs career around in a different environment.

2020/21 line-up for ANA:

Jones - Getzlaf - Silfverberg
Comtois - Steel - Kase
Ritchie - Henrique - Terry
Deslauriers - Lundestrom - Rowney

Lindholm - Manson
Fowler - Bouchard (assuming he's ready)
Guhle - Gudbranson

Gibson - Miller/Stolarz

If you take out Puljujarvi and maybe add like a super small piece, I think its fair value

The Oil need a complementary piece for McD, not necessarily someone of Rakell’s calibre tbh. At this price, not a good idea for the Oil.

Makes some sense to me from a price/value perspective, but I'm guessing that the Oilers would giggle at this unfortunately. Ken Holland doesn't really have a history of earth shattering trades like this one...he's more of a Lou (2nd+bottom pairing dman for old vet), than a Brisebois (1st+Foote for young banger w/control).

JP is a small piece. His value is low. Could turn out to be a decent player in ANA. Could remain a bust. Understand if EDM fans want to keep him though. Meh! I'm not fussed about his inclusion vs. another player/pick of equivalent value.

Fair enough.

Yeah, this isn't ever happening. Murray isn't exactly known for his block busters either... ahahahahaha!

I have said it before Rakell is the ideal winger the Oilers should pursue, but moving Bouchard is something imo, the Oilers cautiously avoid. The rental market has gone INSANE after yesterday. Teams adding depth for their playoff run, need to evaluate if surrendering their 1st for a rental ( I realize in this example Rakell would remain an Oiler next season) outweighs that 1st round pick.

Obviously not an Oilers fan but if Anaheim is down I take it in a heartbeat.

Rackells contract is a perfect fit in the Oilers cap situation and with the way Yam-Nug-Dri are playing together it gives McD and Kas a stud to play with.

Oilers are win now mode. They have the depth on D to make this deal to Bouchard, a late first and a bust for an established young player player on a great contract for the next 3 years.
