no. Those 2nds put it over the edge especially with AA's defensive struggles and Svechnikov not panning out

Agreed, but take out the 2020 2nd and add in Alex Chiasson from Edmonton and I think that’s a yes

Chiasson wouldn't work for Detroit. He's soon to be 30 and they're in a full youth movement.

If only 1 second was on the table, perhaps another option may be a 2nd in 2020 or 2021, Jesse Puljujarvi and Dimitri Samorukov.

The only reason I included Chiasson is because you need cap space going both ways. If you don’t want him you can take Gagner back, his contract is done after this year. As for the Samorukov included. Detroit just isn’t giving enough up to make it worth it

The trade is retaining quite a bit of salary on both AA and Luke Glendening. There wouldn't be any salary retention if Chaissons salary was coming back. I'd rather just keep Glendening at a lower cap hit...plus he's a center.

Oilers don't have enough room to take on 3 contracts, sending one back to Detroit would put them at the maximum of 50.

This is not even at all. You don't sell low. AA is a year removed from 30 goals, sure he's having a down year, but there's no point in giving him away. Puljujarvi isn't even NHL proven and seems to have a bigger ego than AA at that, then retaining salary on Glendening for next season? Why? Then, basically just giving away Svechnikov, who has been on fire in Grand Rapids so far and should have made the team out of camp... once the knee is fully healed, he alone may be worth the picks. I'm not saying that the ask is uneven, considering the inconsistencies of AA and Svech, it just doesn't make sense to sell so low, rather than hold onto them and see if their value increases, or in Svechnikov's case, he becomes a piece we want here for the future.
