Next year - taking a punt

Description
Take a punt and sign defenseman Mikko Lehtonen. He's probably the best D-man in KHL at the moment, possibly the best D there is outside NHL.

Problematic is that his contract with Jokerit runs also the next year, making it quite hard to acquire him. I'm just being optimistic here.

Puck-moving D. Pretty offensive, almost 50 points this year. Has a great slapshot. Also is defensively pretty sound.

Was probably the best D of the Finnish team that won the World Championship last year in Slovakia.

Sounds solid! Couldn't hurt for Dallas to give him a try

He's not getting his massive 8-year deal based on 5 good months of hockey. He may get slightly more on a bridge deal, but 2-years in the $1.75-2M neighborhood is realistically what he can expect to see. He puts up 2 more years like the way he's been playing since December, and he may earn his way into a long-term deal worth a large stack of money, but he's definitely not there yet.

Good point but I can't see a possible 25 goal and 40 point player signing that friendly of a deal. You also have to keep in mind, the playoff performance can really play a role in the conversation as well.

Money is not an issue, really. If we need to pay more for him, that's fine.

I just personally think he needs more time to prove himself. His current form have only lasted two months or so, before that he was a fringe NHL player... I want to see more.
