I think if this were the framework of a deal, rangers would have to retain. I don't really see a way around it.

Better to trade for expansion draft exempt players and or picks or keep, then trade for Reilly

Not worth it for the leafs currently, and what you would need to add would make it not worth it for the Rangers (including adding retention).

Fox has been better than Trouba, and he's had a better season defensively than Rielly.

If he gets traded before July 1st he'll have to go wherever he's traded to, his NMC doesn't kick in until then

DeAngelo and Fox have both outplayed him though. Might be better to cash out before the clause kicks in and save the cap space.

That would be amazing if after all of Troubas bull**** he ended up in Toronto before his NTC kicked in lol. He would have the same facial expression that McDavid had when he realized he was headed to Edmonton!

That is true. I think Rielly has done an incredible job to reach such a high level despite the fact that he’s never played alongside a legit top pair shutdown defenseman. Hainsey was decent but definitely not good enough.

yeah you can't really blame rielly for his slight down year this year. It was well known that he was playing through injury pretty well all season, and was still playing well. him and barrie were finally clicking just as he went down.

Yeah Barrie was definitely the best partner Rielly has had in the last few years.
