Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2020
Published: Feb. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm not going overboard on the value of UFA's just because of the Blake Coleman acquisition. I'm trying to be as realistic as possible.

Item on nhl.com today says that the Lightning might not be through and could still be looking for an experienced defenseman. Derek Forbort is certainly that.

Guys shown on the LTIR should be part of the Kings' long-term plans even if they don't make the team next fall.

Toffoli already got traded so we shall see how close to reality your AGM is. 😁 Hopefully soon.

I heard the rumor so I wanted to post this as soon as possible to see how my prediction of the return would compare with others'.

LeBrun said today on Sirius that he heard the Canes have shown no interest recently in Martinez - sounds like they’ve moved on.

Also - that deal would be terrible for the Canes.

Why would that trade be "terrible" for Carolina? You're missing Hamilton until the playoffs -- Martinez could fill in there at #2 RhD. And then next year he becomes #3RhD or LhD for you at a ridiculously low price. Plus he has the playoff experience only the other ex-King on your roster has, including two Stanley-Cup-series-clinching goals.

Geekie is really good, not sure Martinez is what we need

Well, I hope you find someone better and land him, because right now it seems like that sure-fire playoff spot is slipping away.

Geekie is rated fourth among forward prospects in the authority I consult. I was trying to be as even-handed as possible.

Hmm, alright. Admittedly I’m not good at math, but I don’t think this comment is accurate. Canes sit one point out of WC2, 2 points out of WC1 and Metro 3. Also have two games in hand on WC1 and WC2 teams at the moment.

In addition- they current sit 8 behind Pittsburgh and still have 4 head to head games left with them in March.

Seems to me that’s far from slipping away.

By "slipping away" I mean that at the halfway point, you were in third in the division and now you're outside the playoffs with Dougie Hamilton on the LTIR. That's an undeniable downward trend. Sure, you're within striking distance, and there's no particular reason to panic, but you shouldn't be confident that everything is going to turn out okay. I think you need to make a move, and your belief that standing pat because Geekie is too good a prospect to invest may turn out to be short-sighted.

Playoffs ‘slipping away’ from the Islanders Bluejackets and Panthers faster than the Canes. Canes have a better last 10 record than any of them.

In addition, Canes control their own destiny with a schedule that is heavy Metro and East.
