Habs acquire Brodin AND Dumba

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 18, 2020
Published: Feb. 18, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This crazy (maybe even stupid) idea is predicated on the Habs trading Petry and Brodin agreeing to a new deal with Montreal

Here is a great article explaining what the two d-men would bring to Montreal:
Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Caufield, Cole [Reserve List]
  2. Domi, Max [RFA Rights]
  3. Kotkaniemi, Jesperi
  4. Suzuki, Nick

Additional Details:
PLEASE READ: 2 of these 5 pieces only. Depending on which 2, the Wild might have to add.
MTL

  2. Dumba, Matt
Additional Details:
Brodin signs a 6 year/$36 million contract (he’s worth it!)

Habs fan here. I'd part with Domi and/or a 2021 1st, but none of the other pieces. What's your counter proposal?

Even if they trade Petry? Plus, this trade would go down this summer and Montreal would have plenty of time to make other subsequent moves.

I love Brodin so no matter what it’s not a bad move for Montreal to take him on (like Weber + Brodin sounds like a brutal pair to play against). But that would be 20 mil in Weber Brodin Dumba and would have to get Petry to waive. It’s not impossible as the article says or even a rumbling of it close to happening but it’s too hard to imo for the habs to have 30 mil between 2 old guys Weber and Carey, Brodin WHOS worth it, Dumba who is struggling big time.

For both Brodin and Dumba, it would have to be the 2020 1st unprotected - and I would possibly need the Habs to add depending on where the puck ended up. Nothing if it lands 1-3, something less on down. But, the deal would have to be made before the draft order was established.

Yeah MB would never make that trade, He's giving up way too much here. Pretty sure KK and Caufield are no goes.

MTL is a bad team. They have no right to be trading any of their young prospects and picks, even for good players.

Domi makes sense to be included but the other pieces are simply not available. I would however do Domi and Poehling for example but frankly I want the Habs to rebuild not try to stack their team even more when this season is lost and next season has no remotely close guarantee of making it either.

This TDL could pretty much decide whether the Habs even are going for guys like Dumba and Brodin in the offseason. If they trade Tatar and Petry, IMO there's no point in getting Brodin and Dumba. They'll still be a bad team.

Suzuki, KK and Caufield are untouchable for the Habs, but Domi for Brodin would be where the trade would start and see what pieces would be needed after that.

Both thier contract statuses are up for consideration but with Domi being younger Minny adds maybe a 2nd but would be interesting

Even two of them isn't happening, Don't see Guerin trading both Brodin and Dumba to the same team anyways.

Solves problems for both teams. Habs get better on backend. Wild get 2 pieces to build off and fix expansion draft d problem. They have to keep Sutter and Spurgeon leaving 2 of Dumba, Brodin, Soucy at risk. What do Wild care if they both go to a non conference team? Other than they might get a little more in dealing them separately.

I don’t think either team does it honestly, but it’s reasonable and not far fetched.

MTL has no need for both Dumba and Brodin. Also Suzuki, KK, Caulfield, and a possible lottery winning pick in the deepest draft since 2003 are untouchables.

This is too big of a trade for two teams looking to rebuild and acquire picks
