keane has looked pretty good in his first season in the AHL, but a former 3rd round pick for a former 1st is a pretty decent return for the rangers.

makes me think two things:
1. DeAngelo is close to resigning -- with three good RHD the spot wasn't there. With Lundkvist coming over soon he wouldn't be the first RHD to fill in.
2. Kreider is gone -- Gauthier is a good winger (also RH shot which is good in a lefty heavy prospect pool)

slight advantage is to the rangers right now, but long term this could be a win for Carolina. Interesting though since carolina needs scoring.

I actually like this trade. Both players have good NHL upside, but I don't understand why the Canes would trade for another defensive prospect when they are already loaded there.

they are loaded with left handed shots, keane is a right handed. Very solid return for the rangers though, i think they stole this trade right now

Huge L by Carolina I think Gauthier has way more potential then Keane plus the Hurricanes already have to many defensemen as it is.

Here you go Dominik, there's a roster spot free for you next year, if you can grab it

former 21st overall pick.. comparison was rick nash but is looking more like Chris Kreider with a better scoring touch.. kid can skate

this is quite the trade for the Hurricanes, Keane is massively underrated and if he pans out this could turn in favor of Carolina but as of rn both team got what they needed.

I actually think Keane has developed into a nice Dman. I don't take too much issue with the trade. It does seem a little unnecessary...unless this is a smaller move in what will soon be a big move by CAR. Maybe Bean is a required piece for a larger deal?

Wow I'm so stoked. Been tracking Gauthier since his junior days. Always thought he was underated in prospect rankings. The Rangers needed another top 9 winger for the future imo. I think he can be a top 6 guy if he pans out. Really great deal for the Rangers.

Also if you told me 5 years ago the Rangers would have such a surplus of excellent RHD (Trouba, Fox, TDA, Lundkvist) that they could use one to acquire a sniper, I'd never believe it.

I think both these guys got NHL potential.
But I think NY got the better of this deal.
Put away the draft slot, it's about what you do on the ice at this point.
Keane looks like he could be a 2nd pairing guy eventually.
But Gauthier has looked like a prototypical modern era player. Big fast skilled can be physical.

I guess this means Carolina has lost faith in Gauthier.
