It’s a good move for both sides and the rangers will likely be able to do that if he pans out

Not really, Bokk's gonna come in and do the Gauthier role, we just got a free D man for it

Agreed with it being good for both sides. This take about Canes being ‘ so stupid’ seems to be isolated. Seems like the rest of the fan base really liked Keane.

Both fan bases being opposed to the deal likely means its good for both teams.

You’re not making any sense. Sorry you think the Canes are so dumb.

I can't find 7 forwards on the Rangers that I want to protect.

"so stupid" may be a little much, but I do think NYR wins this deal

Sucks losing Gauthier as I think he was a 'fan fav' prospect for the Canes. I dont think anyone "wins" this deal as of yet.

When coming to moves like this, the Canes have been pretty smart in doing so.

Everyone freaked out when we pretty much traded Saarela for almost nothing, and its looking pretty good now.

Canes are clearly selling high on Gauthiers best season

So NYR has:

Panarin, Zibanejad, Buchnevich, Chytil, Lemieux, Howden, Gauthier (any 2018 or later picks are exempt)

they'll be fine in terms of expansion.. honestly rangers got an asset for someone that would most likely never be on the team.. Lundkvist is better than him so he'll be the first call up after next year. Rykov plays both the left and the right sides as well. They got their replacement for Kreider.

Rangers offense looking good in the top 9 for the coming years:
Panarin-Zibanejad-Kakko-Kravtsov-Buchnevich-Chytil-Gauthier-Lemieux-Howden

Another way to think of this trade: If your team drafted a D 10th overall and he had 30ish points in about 50 games in his first pro season in the AHL, you’d probably be pretty happy.

This is a very fair deal. Both have been very good in the AHL, and both team are addressing their needs. Nobody is getting a "free" defenseman or power forward. Both teams are giving up a type of asset that each team had an abundance of, and in return, they get a good type of asset they needed. The end. It's a fair deal, and a good deal for both sides.

It's an ok deal. I don't really have an issue with it. I'm not jumping up and down, but I do like Keane. Although I admit bias...he's a chicago kid. With that said...this means to me...that there's a larger move coming. Maybe Bean is being shopped?

Trigger happy BUF/CBJ/+!? fan, that likes to stir the pot, NOT a NYR fan! Good gamble for each team, good luck. Joey "we hardly knew ya, but we'll miss ya" Keane is crazy fast, apparently bested McD & Kreiders lap time?!? Loved Gauthier/Greenway in wjc, I've been trading for them ever since. He sounds like a bust, YET it takes longer for big kids to develop, hopefully he keeps improving...

CAR was looking for a RHD. Bean is a LHD. I think there could be a bigger move made, but I think it has little to do with Bean. I think CAR is loading up to make a move for someone like Kase or Palmieri. I think CAR will try to keep Bean though, and move another prospect instead in that deal (along with one of the first rounders).

I 100% hear ya on the picks. I'm curious about Bean though. You're right that CAR was looking for a RHD. On the other side of that coin though. They might have been able to swap over an JE to right and then insert Bean. OR maybe they just aren't as high on Bean as everyone (including myself. I really do like him) think. I'm a little perplexed that they haven't gone out of their way to get him more NHL ice time. At some point 5 years in Juniors and 2 year in the AHL...I'm not so sure "prospect" fits him anymore.

He's 21, I just think they are not going to rush him if they do not have to.

Gauthiers' contract expires after the 20-21 season. Do RFA's need to be protected?

Yes sir. You can use the Seattle Expansion Draft tool to see the players who will have to be protected.
