Description

Not looking good now Klefbom is out. Ideally the Oilers would like to add a winger like Hoffman but I don’t see Holland going out and making a big splash before the TDL. Florida wants a LD and I think Russell would be perfect but he’s on IR under concussion protocol and it’s not known when he’s gonna be back. I think Goldobin is a good option. He’s kinda been blacklisted in Vancouver and they are looking for some grit. Khaira is a good 4th liner with a lower cap hit than some of the other options on the market.

They could've gotten Goldobin for free a while ago and they didn't take him, why would they trade a pick and a 4th liner for him?

Goldobin cleared waivers on Oct 1st. This was also when there was talks of him leaving the team for the KHL. He ended up not leaving and he’s been playing really good in the AHL. Guaranteed if he had to be placed on waivers today he would be claimed by almost any team.

Edmonton has been carrying 48 contracts all season long. That makes waiver pick-ups early in the season a risky business, and so in those circumstances a trade may make more sense even if the player acquired cleared waivers.
