Description
Sounds like the Muzzin extension is all but done at around 4x5.5. Wouldn't have been my decision - he's played hard minutes and deep playoff runs over the years and I suspect he'll spend a good chunk of the next four years on the injured reserve. Also doesn't leave cap space for a true top pair RHD.

As for DeMelo and Dermott:
(I'll save you guys the trouble of writing a snarky comment: "wHy aRE You REPlacINg dERMOTT HeS sOO good. DEmelo SUCKS! YOu mUSt Be a SenATORs fan!")
I do not have any faith in Liljegren's ability to play tough shutdown minutes next year. Dermott sandin and rielly aren't exactly defensive studs either, which means that an injury to Muzzin could create a bigger dumpster fire on the backend than we've seen yet.

DeMelo is unspectacular but also underrated and a cheaper version of Manson and Mayfield. If he was on a half-decent team he'd have much higher trade value. I'd rather add an inexpensive shutdown guy like him and trade johnsson/kapanen and dermott for futures than trade johnsson/kapanen and dermott and futures for an incrementally better shutdown D. I also really don't see any other realistic top-pair rhd targets out there who (1) will cost less than 4 mil per year and (2) the leafs are able to acquire without moving sandin, lijegren, or robertson.

Curious if the Nashville trade is fair value for johnsson and dermott. Both guys are the types of players who I could see thriving in Nashville's system and are still very young, but Nashville also doesn't have a very deep prospect pool and may be looking to partially rebuild.

Although I don't disagree with the trades, I really don't agree what the Dermot/DeMelo logic. Since DeMelo is a UFA, it's not likely the Leafs can sign him next year.
Tierney and Kerfoot might be considered equal in trade and on ice value. Seems like you've just given DeMelo to the Leafs.

1. The sens do not decline it's simply a good deal for them ( although I find the Kerfoot Tierney swap kinda pointless)
2. Leafs have a perfectly fine shot at signing Demelo they can offer money up front along with fair salary and term.
3. Dermott has been a nice little player but he will never be in the top 4 legitimately, with Muzz signed Both him and Rielly take up the LHD Top 4 spots while Sandin rounds out on the 3rd pair with Lilly, Demelo is a much cheaper option than any other RHD available he is capable he is shutdown guy he does play 18-20 minutes a night. For a deadline acquisition Demelo is the safest and least expensive option to target

They need good players. They should have kept him. Not like they got much of a return anyway.

Gee, Sens look like they "given" DeMelo to the Jets. Thought he might have gotten more than a third rounder.
