Genius trade by Winnipeg, the exact kind of defenseman the Jets needed.

I really like this trade for the Jets. I thought Demelo would cost a lot more especially in light of Andy Greene costing the Isles a 2nd + prospect. Excited to see Demlo play for WPG soon!

Not the biggest fan of Demelo, but for that price he is a good get. Nicely done WPG.

DeMelo is a righty, young, and much better than Greene in a vacuum. How did he go for less?

Lmfao some Jabroni told me this guy would cost Connor Mcmichaels haha. A third is about right for him. Similar to the kempny deal a few years ago

He's worth a 2nd round pick at minimal. If this was all what the Sens could get out of him, then they should have just resigned him to be a role model for the younger guys.

I think DeMelo is worth at least a 2nd, even as a rental. Probably a 2nd+

I guess this is the best PD thought he could get for DeMelo.

Honestly, I am really surprised that no one else stepped up to the plate (i.e. the leafs) for a very stable RHD.

And by step up, I mean pay up a 2nd round pick instead of a 3rd. lol not that big of a difference

DeMelo's been having a really good season, so I wonder what the discussions were internally that drove his value down compared to the public view. It's tough to imagine that there wasn't a team that could at least offer up another late round pick to get Demelo unless there's some reason for his value being lower than what we all thought.

Solid deal for both teams. Ottawa gets a solid pick for a UFA who most likely would've walked in FA. Winnipeg gets much needed defensive help for hopefully a deep playoff run.

Jets could turn around and flip him for a 2nd or something. No idea what Ottawa is doing here.

Surely Anaheim would have offered a better third and a 2021 third conditional on re-signing?

If Bob Murray went to sleep on this one, he should be fired. Even at #3RhD, DeMelo is an improvement on what we have. And he could be better.

Probably wanted 4 mil on his contract and Melnyk said he could do 1M x 6 years, final offer

Well, I must be stupid, because here’s the process I would have thought every professional GM would have followed in order to make a trade:

1. Write down on a piece of paper all the players on my team I think I might be interested in trading away, with their positions listed alongside their names.
2. Make a list of all of the teams I thought might be interested in filling those positions mentioned in #1.
3. Call all of the teams listed in #2 about the players mentioned in #1.

Obviously, Pierre Dorion didn’t call Bob Murray or Kyle Dubas, among others, about Dylan DeMelo. If he did, all of the GM’s he called should be fired.
