Steep price but I don't think STL was looking into getting D at the deadline until the unfortunate Bouwmeester incident happened. They were apparently in on Dillon too.

Nice return for the Habs, turning their 4th into a 2nd (and potentially another 4th)

Scandella with his full 4m got 2nd + 4th while Dillon at 1.6m got 2nd + 3rd.


Good return from the Habs since Dillon>Scandella IMO

edit : Conditions updated and 50% retained salary

With the conditions met or not, SJS receives a 2nd+3rd. MTL only receives a 4th if conditions are met (resigning or 2 rounds won). Value seems proportional to their talent

For those crying foul, this trade is purely market based. STL was also probably interested in Dillon, Demelo, etc but had to react quickly before another Dman went off the board.

They overpaid only because they didn't want to risk not getting anyone at all. Sucks but isn't the end of the world. Clearly a major win for the Habs here with where they are sitting right now.

I think Scandella will do well in STL. He'll do what Edmunston did for them last year. Keep him on the third pairing and he'll be good. Don't expect a Bouwmeester minutes replacement though.
