Trade doesn’t make a ton of sense for Vegas. Need a defensemen. That’s extremely rich for him as well

To be fair, I didn't think much about a trade partner. I'll swap for Boston. As for Ilya's value, it's been hotly debated but most people tend to agree that a conditional 2nd can work. Perhaps it'll go down to an unconditional 3rd. Either way, given that Scandella went for a 2nd + conditional 4th, and how hot the trade market is now, I think he can go for a conditional 2nd.

To get a 2nd round for Scandella is very impressive. I had him traded for a 5th round. Goes to show teams are paying high. Good trade by Bergevin.

I rather not get my hopes that high up. I'll be happy if he gets a conditional 2nd.

Honestly yeah, buy low sell high is his specialty.

Why would Habs trading Scandella mean they are playing it safe?

My rationale is that a GM's attention and time to sell is limited, so they often focus on selling the most important assets first. That's why AGM's that have 6 trades are so unrealistic--it's impossible to put in that much time and effort. Given that, if Bergevin traded a minor piece first, it's unlikely Tatar-Domi-Petry are the focus of this deadline.

It's also consistent with how MB trades. Big trades are often done in the offseason.

Obviously if he received that offer without having to work for it, which is possible, then he may still be working on Tatar/Domi/Petry

I think your making a valid point here. Once the "Closing Sale" add is out, everybody knows your prices are bargainable.

Essentially, yes. Shopping a player is time consumer. Cheers!
