Barrie plays 3rd pairing comp: http://puckiq.com/woodmoney?season=20192020&tier=Elite&positions=d&team=tor&group_by=player_season_team

He gets the highest OZ starts of any Leafs D-man and he's sheltered from opposition elites by design. Those are verifiable facts.

All the teams that have won in recent memory have had good defense corps, most have had a #1D on the roster. All winners played team defense and had a really good 5-man system. You still need good defenders to win in the playoffs.

Never said they didn't need good defenders but your point is clearly the same as mine "team defense" and for the record I've been all over this deal not happening, if Scandella lands a 2nd then yes Barrie lands a 1st

Maybe. Scandella was playing 2nd pairing comp in Buffalo though and getting better results than Barrie has playing 3rd pairing comp.

And again I don't really care about your opinion or your unfounded hate on a player who doesn't concern your team, this is a classic case of Media attention and media setting unrealistic expectations, this team has not failed miserably they are not bottom feeding they are struggling to find themselves and still well with in range of a playoff spot

Not at all. I don't read Toronto media and as an Oilers fan I've been watching Barrie for years. I don't hate him or the team, but Barrie never been very good defensively and he's taken a real step back this year. I'm only pointing it out today due to the several Leafs fans who think they can get Evan Bouchard + a 1st for a Barrie rental. (I wouldn't give that up for a prime Chris Pronger rental if I wasn't 100% certain he'd re-sign, to be honest.)

No hate from me, I'm sorry if it came off that way.

And I agree with you on all that, but there are GMs in this moment who absolutely would throw a 1st away on Barrie, it happens every year every TDL
