gear up to play like big boys

Created by: leafs101
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 19, 2020
Published: Feb. 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Things they need to stop playing defenceless and without heart:
1) veteran leadership who wants to and knows what it takes to win
2) 2 way forwards with heart (can overlap with criteria 1)
2) strong defensive top four RHD who can play with rielly
3) Strong 3rd pairing Dman who can play both sides ideally
4) Strong depth at d, as we all know there are more injuries to come
over cap, but this is just to show for playoffs. in regular season, many of these players would be hurt/sent down, but ready and on call for the playoffs. with all those guys sent down I'd have $991,000 in cap space.

Just look up Pesce trades on here ( they are plentiful) for an array of responses that will tell you the same thing.

Columbus would also need someone like Holl coming back to make that trade... also I don’t think they would make that trade as it really doesn’t help them as a team outside of the 1st. Also I think you’re thinking of Nuttivaara as the Columbus defenseman that can play both sides.... Savard has really only ever played the right side..

Also Columbus is basically paying Kerfoot 6mil to replace Folingo.... as Marincin doesn’t even make the roster.... then we lose Savard and a 3rd to gain a low end 1st...

he's vastly overvalued by canes fans. not even close to what people value him for. Strong defensive game but not a whole lot else. Dermott has more value than wallmark, so kapanen plus a second plus the overflow value from Dermott should be enough for this guy. I guess we'll agree to disagree on this

you can have holl but then that third becomes a second just to even out the value. and with the amount of depth d I ended up getting I don't think playing both sides is that big a necessity. but if they were to get only 1 good dman he should play both

they're very strong on d and could use an offensive boost. and still gain a good young dman to fill the hole

Brandon Dillon went for a 2nd and 3rd. Martinez with another year left went for 2 2nds. Pesce goes for a 1st+ at the deadline if hes a UFA at the end of the year but the dude is on an unreal contract for another 5 years so yea you're off by a lot on his value

Columbus then pulls out of the trade. It’s too much for them to trade at this point. You’re not getting us to retain half the contract without extra payment as Kerfoot isn’t worth 6mil and to trade our team captain for...

They have Clifford who has more rings than Marleau and Thornton combined. I mean I get what you’re saying but I don’t think they’re going to help here.

They aren’t as strong as everyone thinks, but are very good and not as poor on offense as everyone thinks. You can look up my previous comments...the issue isn’t value, it’s situation. I don’t think the value proposed here is bad. The reality is it makes zero sense to do right now.

got it. thought it was a knock on value which is why I called pesce overvalued because oftentimes canes fanes do ask for a lot for him, but that makes sense.

I'm not saying they don't have some veteran presence, but they could definitely use more of it. bringing in Thornton helps out a 3C and adds leadership, while Marleau clearly made some strong connections here and was a leader here before. also nice to have some more guys who are hungry for their first, but understand the grind to make it there (finals 2016) and guys who Matthews and the top guys can relate to as they were once stars.
