This is a misunderstanding of ltir and how the cap is calculated.

When ceci is moved at the deadline his remaining cap hit is 900k, Kapanen is 700k meaning 1.6m in total for both players.

Because Toronto is using ltir the full 7.7m will come off the books for the leafs. Meaning they would most likely not need retention. The retention of even 50% on hamonic would cost calgary very little in actual cap space and clear up more for the leafs.

As far as trade value goes... Kappy would be a great piece but Calgary needs Hamonic. And the first seems very overkill. Maybe swap ceci with Barrie.

One other thing to note, Calgary would not need to use ltir.
