Lebrun MTL quote rumour

Created by: Caniac555
Team: 2019-20 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2020
Published: Feb. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
LeBrun threw this out as what seems to be pure speculation. Petry and Brodin would be the only defenseman I’d be willing to move this level of assets for.

I don’t like moving Bean
Trades
CAR
  1. Petry, Jeff ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Retention would have to be in place for cap this year. Alternatively there would need to be other moves or Dougie on LTIR (which CAR doesn’t want to do)
MTL
  1. Bean, Jake
  2. 2020 1st round pick (CAR)

He’s an A prospect...rated as either the top or the #2 prospect in the Canes pipeline by all the top prospect ranking sites.

Bean is nothing out of the ordinary and MB would ask for TOR first. Add Suzuki instead and its a better fit. Along with a second if you ask me

Bean is an elite offensive defenseman who is currently the best defenseman in the AHL and is 21 years old. Seems just ordinary I guess...

I could see this being a good fit for both teams. the TOR 1st and Bean. it's a steep price, but it's 2 years of Petry too.

Don’t like at all. Fleury instead of Bean and another piece i’d do it. I don’t move Bean.

FORECASTER calls him "Quality defenseman with upside." He seems to be tracking well for a mid-first rounder (2016). Nothing to suggest he's any more or any less than how he was advertised in his draft season.

Scott Wheeler had him behind Suzuki as the #2 prospect in the Canes system (which was his third-ranked farm system): "Bean’s already an NHL player. He isn’t in the NHL but he’s definitely an NHL player, regardless of the logjam in front of him. I can’t imagine he loves the wait but he continues to play like a top prospect — and one of the better defensemen in the AHL. He has been a force lately, with 12 points in his last 11 games to move into second on the Checkers in scoring. Bean is a shot-generating, possession-driving two-way defenceman. "

All seems to suggest it's a reasonable 1-for-1 deal with a small sweetener, as Petry could well be a difference maker for the next two season.

Agreed - the only saving grace here is Pesce can play the left next year when Dougie is back. However I don’t like moving Bean at all...

They're not interchangeable parts. Bean is a top prospect, while Fleury is hardly an NHLer at all.

I would lean towards Brodin but if moving bean is the ask rn I think Carolina May sit tight and grab a cheaper options and hope Hamilton can come back sometime in the playoffs if they can make it with their small pickup.

Montreal doesn't believe Bean is an A prospect

"LeBrun avance que les Hurricanes pourraient offrir un choix de première ronde et le défenseur Jake Bean, un espoir, en retour de Petry. Selon LeBrun, Bergevin refuserait cette offre puisque son organisation ne considérerait pas Bean comme un défenseur de top-4 dans le futur."
