Yeah, the Caps aren't even thinking about moving McMichael. Protas, maybe.

yeah I mean according to Bob that's the minimum it's going to take...

as he describes it "1st + Top Prospect + prospect or cond pick"

McMichael is a top prospect, Protas is a borderline top prospect. And obviously then you add from there.

It sounds ridiculous, but so does every trade made this deadline season, this is the market.

I'm just saying, it wouldn't be very prudent to trade McMichael for a rental, especially since McMichael and Alexeyev are our two best prospects in a VERY top heavy system.

You hit the nail on the head there.. is it worth that much for a rental.. especially when everything you give up will be playing against you on a reg. basis... Heck theres the chance he even goes back....

I can't speculate on that. I do know that team's like to win cups. And given that the Capitals have the oldest roster in the league and the majority of those older players signed well into their 30's and less than a handful of actual NHL prospects in the pool, I'd say that the probability of winning a cup is going to go decently down in a few years.

So it makes sense that a team like Washington would take their 1st and one of the few top prospects they have to make a move to win a cup. It's not the greatest long term strategy but the Capitals have set themselves up for this by having 9 F's on the books through at least 2 more seasons, and that's not even considering if Ovi resigns or Vrana signs an extension. So the Caps in this position kinda have to keep pace with Pitt and Carolina and Tampa if they're going to have a legit shot at another cup over the next couple years. That's not going to happen through drafting/developing, that's goin to happen through asset acquisition.

WSH has to ask themselves, are you making this move because to NEED to, or are you making it because you feel as if you need to keep up with other teams moves. ie; Pitt & whatever tampa does.
IF say moving panik, to slide say oshie down to the 3rd, with Kreider on the 2nd line is the missing piece..is that worth the cost??. but I dunno man, everyone wants to win.. but at some point, you cant gamble the future anymore.

At this point, it seems like you're either going for the cup or you're in a rebuild and everyone who's in the middle is in trouble. I kinda respect the dichotomy.
