I get that anaheim is giving up a ton here, Rakell is a real good player. Kase is pretty good depth. Taking on Backes is nothing to sneeze at. This is kind of a franchise altering amount to give up though. Two firsts, two top prospects, and a lesser prospect without anything earth shattering coming back the other way is a tough pill to swallow if you’re boston.

Yeah this is too much going back to ANA, also if we move either Raks or Kase to BOS I feel like Axel Andersson would have to be part of the return

I see it breaking down as:

2020 1st <---> taking Backes
2021 1st + Senyshyn + Vaakanainen <--> Rakell
2021 2nd + Studnicka <---> Kase

imo this makes the Bruins instant favorites for the cup this year and next, since both Kase and Rakell are here for next year as well (Rakell for a year after that too).

I see it breaking down as:

2020 1st <---> taking Backes
2021 1st + Senyshyn <---> Kase (slightly less than what Coleman fetched for NJD)
2021 2nd + Studnicka + Vaakanainen <--> Rakell

imo this makes the Bruins instant favorites for the cup this year and next, since both Kase and Rakell are here for next year as well (Rakell for a year after that too).

Kase is worth a 3rd and a prospect.

Rakell is worth a 1st, high end prospect, mid level third piece.

Backes is subjective to how he is moved. On his own likely him and 2nd for 7th or career AHL. If it’s in a multi player package it depends on how big the overpay is.

Boston is very unlikely to move Studnicka, Urho, Beecher. Even less likely to move 2 1sts and a 2nd. In any deals.

As an Anaheim guy, I think you're overvaluing the burden of the Backes cap hit.

Substitute Axel Andersson for the first for Backes and give us the 2020 first and I think that's a fair package.

Would you give up Jones or Steel for Heinen and a 2nd?
That is essentially the Studnicka part of this deal.

A 1st is too much for Backes, Bruins don't need to. Miller is on LTIR for 2.5m and Moore could be moved and they gain an asset (4th rd pick) which is better than giving up a 1st or 2nd to get rid of Backes. I'd rather keep backes and the pick.

Bjork should not be sitting and he isn't a 4th line guy.
