I dont think thats the minimum with 3M retention.

I can see that if the contract is taken straight up, but retention drops it a round or so

I feel like the Habs could take on his full unretained cap hit (buried at $4.925M) for a 1st rounder.

Depends on how he’s being moved and to whom. But no. Not giving up a 2nd to retain 3m next year when they can buy him out for 4.

Just to be clear, you’re saying 1.925 million for one year costs a 2nd round pick. That’s just, no.

Backes in the AHL. Says yes to any team where he might be in the NHL. Thanks for coming.

BTW what happened to that NMC that you were talking about earlier?

I saw somewhere that he'll more then likely be dealt to a Western Conference team by this weekend.

Wherever you saw that, don’t look there ever again. So there’s two threads you’re discussing this on. First you said that he had an NMC and wasn’t waiving, at least you’ve backed off that. You’re still saying that he would block some trades, do you see the lack of logic behind that opinion?

There's no formula or anything, but that much money retained, it will be less than 2nd pick.

Backes (0% retained) = Late 1st
Backes (25% retained) = 2nd or 3rd + minor piece
Backes (50% retained) = 4th + minor piece

I don’t see the case for a first to be honest.

If the B's move Backes, it's likely with a prospect and a pick but not the 1st. 1st (should) only be moved if it's for an RW with term.

I mean, great? I guess I just don’t trust that. It would be great if it happened though.

Price drops if they trade him in the off season. I'm saying at the trade deadline. Cause then they have to eat 2 years. If its next year I'd say the bottom price is a 3rd.

Okay. So:
Just to be clear, you’re saying 1.925 million in savings for a year, and a few months costs a 2nd round pick. That’s just, no.

At the trade deadline... yes. If they trade him next year the price goes down.

More like 2 years of savings adding up to almost 4 million.

A million retained, and sure. 3 million retained? No.

At a million retained probably two 2nds. Boston's second this year is likely around 60 overall. Why would a team take 8 million in cap for that?

Well, I think we have our answer.

Pretty tough to make a judgment on this. I bet some people think that Kase had the value of a first round pick. I don’t. If you do, ya, about a 2nd round pick with 25% retained. I’m not a huge Kase guy though.

Safe to say that Backes would have needed a 1st to move (if no money retained)....which was the debate on here.

I think a bit more than a 2nd. Kase isn't worth a 1st.
