Knowing BOS is retaining makes it a little better for ANH, but WTF ARE YOU DOING BM?

Good for both teams, Ducks add a nice RD prospect and get a first, Kase needed a change of scenery as much as I love him as a player, Backes cap hit doesn't hinder us at all really

What a steal for Boston.

Getting a middle 6 forward for a 1st round pick is already a good deal in this years market, then you dump Backes on them and it's a steal. I hate when my Rival's win trades.

I voted Anaheim. Kase is already in his mid 20s and has never hit 40 points and you get a 1st rounder back.

I voted fair, because it's not as if it was free for Boston to dump a contract and add a good winger, but I think Boston did really well here.

They didn't fully get out from under Backes, but they are paying $1.5M for Backes and $2.6M for Kase next year, so $4.1M total instead of the $4.925M for nothing. That's basically $800k in cap savings and grabbing a forward with some good upside.

Kase has had a really disappointing season, but he is a guy who has consistently created scoring chances and shots at a rate usually reserved for higher end players. Boston should give him a place in the line up to play where maybe he can make good on that potential. If he does, and they managed to get a 20+ goal speedy winger while saving cap space, that's worth the price.

It wasn't enough to say that Boston wins this deal (as that implies Anaheim lost it), simply because Anaheim managed to get a 1st and a prospect for a player whose injuries and struggles could potentially start to drive down his value. Anaheim probably didn't have to trade Kase, but he is approaching an age where he probably isn't going to be a big part of a rebuild as this team likely has a lot of work to get back to contending. So I don't mind this trade for them.

Overall, I think Boston did a great job getting a useful player, shedding salary, and probably buying a little low on someone. This move actually creates space for an additional move if they want, and Boston is one of only a handful of teams where I think going for it hard over the next 2-3 years at all costs is completely reasonable, so giving up a 1st is almost a no brainer.

It was awful. No one has ever payed that much for dumping a contract. Carolina robbed Dubas.

Carolina artificiality lowered their cap by 6 million. Backes will probably play in Anaheim. Big difference but gotta bring the Leafs into this, right?

this is honestly a good trade for the bruins. they just dumped some cap and got kase. the only bad thing is them giving away their first round pick.

Yeah, different situations too, Cap savings for BOS only roughly 800k with the retention

I don't love Kase as much as the heavy-analytics people do, but I like the deal a lot for Boston. The price was reasonable for them to add the 2RW they desperately needed and shed Backes' contract. I say fair deal. Kase will have a really nice impact in their top six and it'll be well worth the price.

Whoa. I didn't think Boston would actually be able to pull this off. Got rid of Backes AND got themselves a depth winger? Well Done Boston

Like this deal for both sides. As a Canucks fan gives me hope that there is a market for a deal like this and JB can get completed like this involving Eriksson.

Remember when people said it would take a 1st just to move Backes? Again you were wrong.
