Realistic Cirelli Sergachev and Cernak signings

Created by: Tblecavalier4
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2020
Published: Feb. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I see so many folks putting Sergachev and Cirelli just over $3m a year in cap. Even with home team discounts and bridge deals, the market value for Sergachev and Cirelli are really high and they will get paid a solid amount by JBB. Cernak is playing top 4 minutes, so he too will have a solid bridge deal.

We would still be over a $84m cap when moving Killorn and Gourde. Would we need to trade away another forward?

Congrats those are realistic. Only issue is you still dont have a backup goalie or a full roster and are still over

Considering Colin White got 4.75 for 6 years after 1 year, Cirelli should get exactly what you put even with the taxes in Florida.
Sergachev should get the McAvoy contract but a bit less because of the taxes.
Guys like Cernak and Dermott should be getting the Brandon Carlo contract

And why is Gourde waiving his NTC to go MTL? Not throwing stones, but he’ll make more in Tampa, and be on a perennial contender.

Yeah you're still 3 players short and $1.15 million over the cap. Looks like realistic signings for all 3. But still need to trade another bad contract.

One would assume someone will be forced to waive. Johnson/Gourde/Palat/McDonagh

How do you force someone to waive their clause? Seems like you should, like I don’t know, not give them a clause in the first place if you are just gonna try and muscle them out.

Find something against them. Threaten to make their life miserable if they dont

Why would Montreal want to pay ~5.2 mil a year for 5 years for a guy with 8 goals??? His play is his ntc.

It cost Tor a 1st for 6.4 mil. How many 1 st for 26 mil????

Agree, even with having Killorn and Gourde traded, this shows Tampa Bay will have to dump more than just two trades.

McDonagh and Johnson are possibilities. Convince Johnson to waive to go play 2C somewhere where they need him. Trade McDonagh for futures. I guess its easier for these players to waive if they win the cup this year

Im thinking maybe they end up dumping someone big, because the guys with NMC dont have to do anything.

I agree. Just was pointing out from the players perspective which you'd have to convince first before talking to another team.

You call these realistic projections...
5.25M for Cirelli is not a bridge, that's what he'll get on a long term deal. His comparable is probably Couturier who came into the league as an 18 year old, he signed a 2 year bridge at 1.75M 2.7% of the cap. 2.7% of a 82.5 cap is 2.25, so maybe you give Cirelli a bit more cause he produced a little more offense so you have 2.5M. Add a 3rd year of contract and you end up in the 3-3.3M ballpark.

For Cernak his comparables vary. You got a Nurse who got 3.2, then Pulock got 2, McCabe 1.6 and Petterson 875k. The first three got 2 year bridges while Petterson took a one year deal. Nurse was the 7th overall so got paid more for that than true production, the others were mid first to early mid 2nd. Cernak probably gets 1.9M for two years.

Sergachev is the one who will most likely clear 5M. McAvoy got 4.9 and Werenski got 5 so he's comparable to them. But definitely not 6.

Are you high? How is this realistic in anyway possible? I can understand a bridge deal for Cirelli, but those dollar signs for Cernak and Sergachev are close to what they'd get in a long term contract... Teams that follow Toronto's foot steps with contracts will follow their same fate, no Stanley Cups.

Sergachev: 5.5-6M long term
Cernak: 3.5-4.75M long term
Cirelli: 6M long term, bridge deal probably around 3.5-4.75M x 2 or 3 years

I think this is actually pretty close based on how Tampa does things, and not basing it on Toronto and other inflated contracts. I'd say Cirelli around 4, 4.5 max, Sergachev at 5 tops, could definitely see 4.5 or so and Cernak at 1.9 to 2.5 tops is about right. When Tampa gets them signed for ~11 million many will be shocked but not those of us who follow Tampa closely.
