Timo Meier for Johnsson and Kapanen

Created by: CheechYou
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 21, 2020
Published: Feb. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a win-win for both teams as for the Leafs, they get their big push for the playoffs while staying true to their future. With the Sharks, they make this deal knowing they'll spend on Fast and either Pageau or Toffoli in free agency to regain competitiveness for a final cup run with Thornton and Marleau, who announce they will sign on a last one year deal. They often times (esp back to backs) rotate with one another in and out of the lineup on the 4th line to remain fresh and not have the roster have two 41 year olds instead of one, though both their games this season has still been good and they are an asset to the group -- not a liability. So Marleau-Gregor-True or Gregor-Thornton-True or for the playoffs Marleau-Thornton-True.

Not a player that Toronto wants to add. Makes little sense. Especially cap wise.

Also makes little sense for the sharks.

Much of Toronto media/ actual experts don’t see Kapanen putting 30 up, even 20-25 is a stretch.

Johnsson also has been talked about as just being a good third liner but not top 6. Kapanen > Johnsson but even then at most they middle 6 guys. This is a terrible move for the sharks and we would be silly to put eggs in the pageau and fast basket (both of which are more middle 6 guys).

Hard hard pass. Timo has like 40 goal potential. Johnsson can barely stay healthy. I would think about like Domi+ a really good prospect though

Meier is all yours. I wonder how happy you guys will be when he's just a 60 point winger making 10 million a year? Because that is exactly what he makes his final year of his contract, making the qualifying offer the year after (His last RFA year) 10 million. He's not even close to an elite player and is going to walk himself to FA with back to back 10 million dollar contracts. He could have the worst RFA contract in the history of hockey. I'd rather keep two players that aren't even that far behind him skill wise for just over half the price.

You know what isn't potential but 100% a fact? He's going to make 10 million in 2 years and then his qualifying offer for his final RFA year is also 10 million. Unless he becomes your best player, this contract is absolute trash. Good luck with that.

Elite 3rd liners. They are 2nd liners or top liners on teams with no offensive depth......Like San Jose.

Hey, if you are okay with paying a 60 point winger 10 million and walking him to FA, all the power to you.

Check out his contract, nothing I said was incorrect. 10 million is his starting point on his next deal, its built into the contract. He is not at all close to being a 10 million dollar player.
