There's gotta be more coming back to Ottawa in this deal. Tierney is too young and Sens have too much term control on Tierney to include him in what's essentially a cap dump. Looks like the Backes trade today but an even worse fleece job.

Man, I’d kill to have gotten that Backes trade. Thing is with the Sens is I wonder if they’ll end up having to overpay Tierney/C Brown/Duclair just to make the cap floor. If you’re going to overpay they might as well get paid to do so. Plus they might just waste Tierney’s prime as a stop gap to let L Brown/Pinto/Norris/White/ Rossi or Byfield (hopefully) develop. I’d rather have Turris and trade him with retention when the young players are ready.

There are other dumps that you can make to get around the cap floor situation. I don't necessarily think you have to send the guy out the door yet

Tierney is a servicable RFA C.

But hes not right for Ottawas long term.

He should fetch a 2nd, so OTT gets a warm body and upgrade the 2nd to a 1st.

Turris is loved in Ottawa, he can be a vet to help the young guys mature and he helps OTT reach the cap floor.

OTT accepts.

Plus Turris doesn’t have a NTC or anything so he’s such an asset for the upcoming expansion draft compared to other salary dumps.
