Koivu Parise

Created by: OutCold13
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2020
Published: Feb. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not probable moves but after I heard Russo report yesterday that Guerin was looking to move out some Vets. It got my wheels spinning.
Trades
1.
MIN
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (TBL)
TBL
  1. Koivu, Mikko
Additional Details:
Apparently Guerin is going to have the conversation with Koivu about going to a legit contender.
2.
MIN
  1. 2020 1st round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Parise, Zach
Additional Details:
A east coast team has been asking about Parise, to me Islanders are the best fit. I guess Guerin isn't worried about the recapture fees?
3.
CAR
  1. Dumba, Matt
  2. Staal, Eric ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
My value is off I'm sure and I know it's not likely the canes trade Necas. However after hear the Wild are going to start moving some vets I assume Staal to be a good fit for Hurricanes and I have heard Canes have strong interest in Dumba so this is the trade that makes sense to me.

With his high cap hit for so long at his age, it will be really challenging to find a trade partner especially without retaining a decent chunk of salary.

Or adding a cap dump back. I think somebody like Ladd could be interesting in a Parise trade if the Islanders added a pick or something.

You aren't getting value out of Parise. If you can find a taker for him where you don't have to pay too much you take it. He's 35, with 5 more years and paid like the 7th highest LW and has cracked 50 points once in the last 4 years.

You pay someone a second to take him on with like 25-30% retention. Or you trade him after next year when his cash decreases to an Ottawa type team.

The cap space for any team will be the issue.
I like the idea because that team is stagnant without moving those older players.
The only player left to move after that would be Suter.
I wish Guerin luck in rebuilding that mess of a team.

From what Russo said, they already talked to Koivu and the choice is his. Supposedly Guerin is just letting him know which teams have expressed interest. I’d be surprised if they get much, but I still can’t believe what NJ got for Greene so who knows.

If Parise is going to the Islanders, Ladd is coming back. No other way that deal gets done.

Is there a way to put a condition on a Parise trade that he can’t retire with the Islanders and must be put on LTIR? That’s the only way I see this getting done in the first place. Is Ladd even gonna play another game? Getting him back would basically free the Wild of Parise’s entire cap hit if Ladd is just going on LTIR

Seems like a good way for a team to get in trouble for cap circumvention. I'm sure some kind of conversation about that topic came up between Leipold and Suter/Parise already given that contracts like theirs are part of what caused a lockout. The fact Luongo actually retired instead of going on LTIR surprised me, given his well documented history of injuries. Suter and Parise both have had serious enough injuries that a future LTIR for the last 2-3 seasons seems likely and easily explainable.

I actually think Suter will play out the contract, guy is never tired. Parise would be the one that worries me.

Suter's ankle worries me. He can't pivot like he used to.

Suter being Liepold's best friend brings me comfort that he would have no trouble sitting on LTIR for as long as is needed.

Parise is the LTIR candidate of the 2 of them. He has the injury history with his back where he could quit the NHL after the season and nobody from the league would bat an eye. Suter hasn't missed more than a couple games in a season, so he'd be much harder to get on LTIR.

The only vets (27yo+) that are moveable are Foligno, Hunt, Pateryn, and Staal. Parise, Spurgeon, Suter, and Zucc all have contracts nobody wants to touch and full NMCs.

Koivu might waive, and there might be some interest in him. I don't think he will, not with MN a few points out and games in hand over the teams ahead of them.

Just saw on Twitter Koivu intends to stay in Minnesota. Parise has had a interested buyer. I'm sure Guerin would take the recapture fee into consideration but he seems willing to move him so not sure if there are changes coming on that front.

Parise was rumored to be moving this offseason too. I don't see it happening without MN taking on a bunch of bad cap with term; which kind of defeats the purpose of a trade.

No its probably a long shot but if the right opportunity comes knocking it would be hard to pass up.
