I'm not saying any of them should/will be traded, but if you were to trade one of the $10M+ players, Matthews should be the last one to go. Him and hyman have been the only two generally consistent players on this team all year

I am facinated by Toronto fans today but what's weirder is none of these high profile trades have Tavares.

What's the deal with all these Matthews trades today? Did he cost the Leafs a goal last night or something?

It's pure panic and it's awesome. Check out Twitter and Reddit. Leafs nation is on fire.

why is this always the narrative for only the leafs? are all fans not rooting for their team to win? If your team is trying to win and you're not supporting them then why even bother watching? All fans do this with their team, they all think and hope that their team will win soon, but somehow the "plan the parade" comments always come to the leafs. I understand that some fans can be premature about this, but it happens with every fanbase- and if it doesn't with yours maybe your fans don't care enough. Also, you see it more from leafs fans on here because I can guarantee you that there are more leafs fans on here than any other fanbase.

I could see them trading Marner well before I see Matthews going anywhere. neither are on matthews' level

no, just panicking leafs fans being stupid. Matthews is still our best player by a decent margin

But Matthews is the only one that could leave via free agency, no chance Marner does and Tavares will be old when he has another chance. This is why people try to trade Matthews, not that I would do it.

its because they have so much talent and 3 players over 10 mil, did you know that no team has ever won the cup with a player making over 10 mill? let alone 3.

ok but 99.9% of top players weren't making over ten mil until around the time mcdavid signed his contract. I hate when people say that because it's just not a fair comment. The teams that haven't paid their players like that and won signed them in a different time period where players weren't making this much, or they signed them before they got really really good (for example pasta). This is what the league is trending towards, and over the next few years you'll continue to see the players who produce at such a high level will be paid like this. The cap will increase and give the leafs more flexibility, but quite honestly, the cap isn't the problem with this team. they have solid depth players all around, and could find ways easily to add a defenceman or two and stay under while still having a deep roster. It's heart that this team lacks. You can't blame a fanbase who cares about their team for trying to stay confident in their team's success, when there's so much potential, even when on some nights it doesn't look like the team itself takes this to heart

Sure, there will end up being a team with a 10mil player to win eventually, but having 30+ mil tied up in 3 players is not ideal,i nstead of signing tavares they could have spent that money on a top tier defensmen and better depth and right fit role players
