if TOR does this its a giant gamble, but it guarantees the better assets opposed to out of division or out of conference. could even do 50% retention as well on this but idk. we need the first if we wanna land a manson or dumba without giving up liljegren or robertson. this idea of him to tampa scares me but I think dubas at least thinks a bit on it. interesting.

Leafs can't retain on Barrie in any deal. His contract has already reached the maximum allowed to be retained.

Leafs can't retain on Barrie in any deal. His contract has already reached the maximum allowed to be retained.

"When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of their salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary then pays the retained percentage of the salary, and also retains the percentage of the cap hit until the contract expires. The following requirements must be met to retain salary:
The percentage retained cannot exceed 50 percent of the player’s salary (including all bonuses) and Salary Cap Hit.
The same percentage must be retained for both the player’s salary and Salary Cap Hit, and cannot be modified.
All teams are limited to a maximum of 3 retained salary contracts per season.
Teams cannot retain an aggregate amount of more than 15 percent of the Salary Cap Upper Limit.
Players’ contracts are limited to 2 retained salary transactions per contract."

Yes his contract can be retained for on a 2nd time. But no we can not afford it.

If he plans on replacing Barrie with a top 4 Dman they can not.

Colorado has already retained 50%. If Toronto were to retain anymore, it would exceed the maximum allowable of the players salary that is to be retained. Barrie can not be retained on.

if its manson, then why not? if kapanen is included (3.2) and johnsson on LTIR (3.4), and the retained on barrie (1.375), why could they not? manson at 4.1 is an easy disposition. im sure you could even run ceci and rielly as well with a 22 man roster in the middle of march. not a huge deal.

might wanna check your own eyes before you throw insults around.

The percentage retained cannot exceed 50 percent of the player’s salary (including all bonuses) and Salary Cap Hit.

Barrie's salary for this season is $5.5M.. Colorado has already retained 50% of that ($2.75M).. yes a contract can be retained on twice, but not if 50% has already been reached. It's literally right in the response you sent me and you tell me to check my eyes. lmao.

That is incorrect. The players salary can not be split more than 50/50 on the 2nd retention I believe.

Read that. It's exactly what you posted. Does NOT say on a single trade. It says 50 PERCENT OF THE PLAYERS SALARY.

Barrie's 2019/2020 salary: $5.5M
Colorado retained salary: $2.75M

... the 50% has been reached.

you can trade a player at 50% two times. you cannot retain 60%, 70%, 80% or 90% OBVIOUSLY. but you can retain 50% or whatever percent you want two times, on a players contract. both the retentions DO NOT have to add up to 50%. its just that it cant exceed 50% on any retention deal. not that hard.

then what pieces do you move that arent liljegren or robertson? dermott has some value, but not really enough. the 1st from barrie helps, but depending on term, i dont think dermott and a 1st get it done for a higher end Dman.
