Don’t the Oilers already have a bunch of bottom pairing D? Don’t get me wrong they gave practically nothing for Green, but if they play him in their top 4…. That’s a bad move. His offense is gone, and he’s become a giveaway machine...

Point of the trade deadline is to add players to help you win. Not just add guys for the sake of it. I think this is a bad move, even if it cost almost nothing.

I was praying someone would get desperate and give up a 3rd.

Seems like a big contract to take on (I checked this time). Feel like there are many better options for the Oilers to get. On the plus side, it costed the Oilers basically nothing for Green.

It is half retained you know that right? But ya even for 2.6 mill it might be a bit much.

My only conclusion is that Green is nothing more than a stopgap until Klefbom returns from IR. He's probably only good for PP and maybe 12 mins per game at this point. Clearly there's a trend of GM's trading for former players. Lou brought Andy Greene to NYI last week.

Given Green's down year, this is about as good as it gets. DET should be happy that they got an asset for him, imo.

I'd like to have seen more but 4th isn't that bad considering the 2 players involved won't be in the NHL next season I guess it's not to bad.

Always been a big fan of Green. He is truly highly underrated. Past few seasons though have really dipped off. Either way, big win for Edmonton.

Tippet is playing 3 rookies on D right now - one on each pairing - due to injuries. All it takes is one veteran player to get sick and he's going to have a pretty green backend... this is a smart depth move for a right-shot veteran who still has a little upside left.

This is honestly what I would have expected for a Mike Green trade. Just glad we're shedding dead weight for at least something of value(ish?)

Hopefully Daley is next.

Edmonton only wins this deal because Green is a UFA and can help bring a bit of stability to their defensive core.

So in the end, the Oil traded a 4th for 1.5 games of Mike Green's services. Essentially wings took on an LTIR body for a draft pick.
