Barring any regression, the Rangers left side will certainly be dangerous for years to come

This will make it difficult to trade him before the deadline. We'll see though.

Cap is reasonable.. The years are likely going to hurt, but sometimes that's what you gotta do.

They didn’t like the offers? Oh well I’m looking forward to hating the rags more.

This is probably the worst deadline day in recent Rangers memory. Could have gotten a 1st + prospect, instead we sign a guy who is ALREADY regressing. Excellent job Gorton, I'm sure you'll be buying him out in about three years' time. Kakko, Buchnevich, Gauthier, Kravtsov, Chytil all potential top-6 wingers - but we re-sign a regressing power forward who is already losing his scoring touch. A solid second half of the season doesn't count, before anyone says "he's been on fire lately." I've never smashed the "No" button on a CapFriendly poll so hard.

Years aren't ideal but took a discount on AAV. Gotta work to free up some money for next season now.

The Ranger's run recently seems to have tricked them into thinking the re-build is over. This signing is a big OOF for their future.

In the Free Agent market, he would've gotten 7.5M or more, for probably 7 years. 6.5M AAV shows he wanted to stay with the Rangers; this is a discount rate. If the only thing that declines at the end of the contract is Kreider's speed, this will still be worth it. He is one of, IF NOT THE BEST, net front presence in the league.

Term is the only issue, 5 years would have been ideal, thought they'd settle on 6, but ended up 7.

The Rangers have the prospects, they have the assets, but they don't have the experience and veteran leadership championship teams have to have. Locking up Kreids means this team chose the direction they want to go and I agree with it. Selling off this deadline would push the window back another 2-3 years, with a few minor tweaks this offseason and adding some veteran depth, this team could make the playoffs next year.

Also, in 1 year like 25 mill is coming off the books for the Rangers. This is a move knowing full well they only have 1 more year until they can make major moves and capitalize on prime Kreider,Panarin,Zibanejad.

I cannot properly explain how bad of a move this is. Jeff Gorton is the new Glen Sather.

There goes your future cap space, Rangers. Hopefully Kreider doesn't turn into Milan Lucic 2.0.

Not saying that Kreider is a bad player but 7 years/6.5 mil AAV. Rangers are paying him too much and that could hurt them in a few years

don't like this move with shesterkin and buch being in the car accident. however, this does make them a lot more competitive next year. they are trying to offload skjei to carolina right now so i'm thinking they'll resign ADA, shift him to LHD and then sign miller

I think Kreider is a good winger, but that cap hit at that term seems like a bit of a disaster waiting to happen for a player who plays a style that hasn't typically aged well. He probably is worth around this cap hit at his best, but it essentially represents a ceiling for his value.

I think one of the worst things about the cap in general is having to dislike contracts so much to players you like to watch. I hate this contract, but I like this player. I think New York is better with this player than without, but I have hard time seeing him live up to this deal.
