Demote Gorton To Head Of Scouting Promote Drury To GM

Created by: Vermathex
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2020
Published: Feb. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The contracts he's given out are just insane. Kreider and Trouba are huge contracts to guys whom do not deserve it. Trouba was an RFA and we should have waited to get him to less money. Term wasn't as significant with him. Kreider getting 6.5 til he's 35?? especially with his physical play??? like come on.

Kreider's deal is pretty good when you look around the league.

So you guys arent NBA fans i take it ?
Bettman helped turn that league in to a money hungry league of over paid players as a standard
i said for 2 decades + now he'd do this to the NHL and so it begins .

in the world of overpaid players Kreiders getting middle 6 money . i dont doubt he'll be a 3rd liner when he's 34-35 .

Wilson has a 5.14M cap hit coming off of a Stanley Cup win where he played a major role, and was making 2M on a 2 year bridge contract. He's also significantly improved offensively since 2018 (42 goals, 29 assists in 124 games, which is a .572 PPG pace) compared to his offensive output prior (35 goals, 69 assists in 391 GP, or a .265 PPG pace). The Caps were paying him for future production, not past performance.

Kreider didnt get any protection this time though and likely understands when the right price is offered he's gone .
Seattle Kraken would be in a position to overpay to acquire him and leave your young players you cant protect alone in the process

its kind of genius

Is that confirmed? I have not seen that there was no protection included.

I would be SHOCKED if it wasn't something like: Full NMC for 3-4 years, and then the remaining years something like limited 10-13 team list.

So everybody said 6x7get it done. And the realty is an extra year but a lower AAV. What is so terrible about it this deal? An extra year is not the end of the world...

I had high hopes for Gorton early on. Unfortunately the guy has the same inclinations as his mentor Glen Sather. Everyone gets unlimited term... until the inevitable buyout. Rinse repeat. Such a bad signing and people are hailing it a steal. Mind boggling.

Same contract as Brayden Schenn so it's a good comparison

Trouba could have went to Arbitration gotten a 1 year deal & became a UFA, they didn't trade him to lose him in a year & he singed that extension at 25.

How does paying Kreider $6.5M, which is a fair contract, handcuff the team 2-3 years from now when RFA's need to be signed? In the long term outlook, Rangers have one of the best cap situations in the league after next season. If they are on track to start competing after next, they are going to need experience and leadership, something that Kreider has. No reason to dump that for another first and some prospect that will become 3rd liner. The team doesn't need another pick or prospect, they have enough. The rebuild was expedited and what Gorton has accomplished has been pretty impressive. Out of any contract the Rangers have handed out over the past 15 years, Kreider's is the LEAST concerning.
