This trade was likely to open up cap space for the Devils. Puts Simmonds closer to his hometown so I think this will benefit him. Still wish he went to the Leafs...

Sabres are only 6 points back with a game in hand and hot as of late... Decent addition... Hopefully we can add Hoffman or Palmieri and make a legitimate push.

They're only 6 points behind Toronto and have a game in hand. If they win that game in hand the race for 3rd in the Atlantic is Toronto 72, Florida 70 (game in hand), Buffalo 68... Not out of that race by any means.

I like the idea that this gives us cover to move someone like Sheary. If somehow Sheary gets move for a third, I'll take it. We're effectively moving a fifth for a third, and getting a different type of winger.

But you're right, we still have a need down the middle.
